I would gently mention to her that I find it far more offensive to all the religions that 400,000 people have been murdered in the genocide in Darfur. Then walk away. I bet you would hear some applause.

Harry Potter is a fictional book about friendship, love, teenage angst and the fight between good and bad..
Many religious people object to the inclusion of magic...
No I do not agree... The Harry Potter Books have gotten children interested in reading.. They are marvelous books all three of my children (ages 19, 17 and 10) are chomping at the bit waiting for Friday night so we can pick up the 7th book..

I'll tell you what's offensive about Harry Potter:
- A "rags to riches" story + makes people feel "edgy" because a small minority of the population is offended by it + not being above whimsical, trite gimmicks such as time travel + the X-men "different people are superior" vibe = MARKETING GENIUS.
What's offensive, is that I didn't think of it first.
The books themselves? You've got to be kidding. "Dark" in a Harry Potter book has the same meaning that "dark" has in a soap opera... and for that matter, so does the word "plot". If that lady was looking toward daytime TV in book form to be offended, she needs to admit to herself that she's scraping the bottom of the barrel and move on to something else. I think there's still some homophobia people haven't gotten to yet.

I am a muslim, and no muslim I know thinks harry potter is offensive. I think it would be a violation of islam if you really believed (in real life) that voldemort has more power than anyone. That would be a violation of Islam. So harry potter is halal (permissible) for muslims to read.

No way! I am a Christian, and I love Harry Potter! What fun!
This is fiction....no different from The WIzard of Oz, Snow White (there is a witch there), etc. It's harmless.

It's a fictional book. So are tons of other books with wizards and dragons. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and other fantasy books are not created with hell fire and it isn't a sin to read them. Those people who freak out about them are crazy and have no imagination.

Anything that is linked in some way to the occult ,is dangerous.
Now , I agree, the way, this lady was handling the situation, was wrong. But everything starts in the spiritual realm first and then manifests in the natural. I would not get those books for no child, because the devil just needs a little opening to come in.
I took part in a prayer to release a lady from demonic possession, and her husband told us ,that she got those spirits from a movie ,that they had watched together the night before.
The name of the movie was "the butterfly effect"
You have to be careful what you take in your spirit.
Harry Potter doesn't glorify God in any way.......

these types of statements usually come from people who have not read the books and think it's only about magic - black magic. there are so many underlying wonderful tones in these books - avoiding evil, standing up and making the right choices. it's enven said that you will have to choose that which is easy and that which is right. this is right in line with many biblical teachings. even the Rcc who is against peope believing in magic and sorcery says that they are okay, as long as the person doesn't really think it's real and can distinguish between fiction & fact.
let me tell you even though i'm Catholic i'd love a bottle of skelo-grow right now to fix my bustd up humerus and scapula LOL

It's the same reason people found another great work of fiction offensive "The daVinci Code". They actually believe everything they read and think it must be true if you read it. They can't separate fantasy from reality. Go figure! Harry Potter ROCKS!!!

There's nothing wrong with Harry Potter. It's fictional. She probably hasn't even read the books.
