Not a whole lot, but it will improve your fitness level, burn some calories, and you won't have weather problems.

Its not the nest way or the most efficient way.
BUT
It can be used a training tool. I wouldnt use it for a mile pace, but maybe a 400m. But in the same since you can get this done by doing a stopwatch drill or hit your mile pace during a warm-up lap.
The stopwatch drill is actually real tough I do it with my athletes every now and then. Lets say you want to run an even split mile of 4:40 that means you would want to run your first 400m in 70 seconds. So you start the watch and withOUT looking at it (you should try to picture yourself running) then stop it when you think you have hit 70 seconds (first few times, youll get 55-62 seconds). Try to do this 4-6 times in a row. This will get you to know what the pace feels like in time.

The warm-up lap goes jog a lap then do a lap at your mile pace, have someone let you know at the hal way point if you are going to fast or slow. Then jog a lap and then do anoter one at race pace. Great warm-up before you stretch and do your workout and also gets you to know what your pace should feel like.

Best of LUck!!

Running in pace is useless from a training standpoint. Your energy is focused on moving you up and down, as apposed to forward while running normally.
