Where I live there is the sidewalk, and an area of grass about 8-10 feet wide in between the sidewalk and the street......And every day I see people walking in the street instead of the sidewalk. I just don't get it. Has anyone else seen this?

If you are refering to people walking for excercise the probability is that they are avoiding the sidewalk because of knee problems. The road has more give and is easier on foot and leg injuries.

That's an interesting question.

i've always found it courtesy to walk on the sidewalk, regardless of which side you prefer to walk on. And if there is a sidewalk present, i think it's only fair to walk on it.

i have to foot it to work, myself, and there is a section that doesn't have a paved sidewalk for me to walk on. I don't like it, really, but i think i'd rather walk as close as i can to the curb while walking on the street, than walking in the grass, which can be quite soggy after a good rain. not to mention all the "divots" i can't see due to the grass.

i wish they would connect the sidewalks from one street to the other, but i have to make do with what i got, right? i tend to walk opposite traffic, that way i can see them at a distance, and they can also see me. If necessary, i move my stride up into the grass so that they can pass, then i'll walk back on the paved road.

Because its usually more than one person and they just want a little more room. I hope were just talking about side streets.
