"There shall not be found among you anyone who …practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you."

Deut. 18:10-14

The Bible is clear that in the last days witchcraft and sorcery will be widespread. In fact, it even reveals that many Christians will be caught up in it! These Harry Potter books are right on time in the end time scenario.
What does God think about Christians making wizards and sorcerers out to be good guys for the minds of young children (Mark 9:42)?: “And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God” (Lev 20:6).

These Harry Potter books are dangerous because they are ten times more blatant about the so-called wonders and glories of witchcraft and magic; yet they contain none of the insights or Christian analogies of early children’s books. We must beware. The Salem Witch Trials were caused by children playing with divination and witchcraft. The children would have “out-of-body-experiences” and be carried about by men on broom sticks with pointed hats. Many good people were murdered as a result. Sorcery brings evil wherever it goes. It is not just fantasy. We have children killing one another all across the land because they think Satan will give them power if they shed blood. J. K. Rowling needs to hang her head in shame for her irresponsibility. I hope she doesn’t think that Satan has allowed her to become a multi-millionaire just because she is a talented writer! She is bringing millions of young minds into the occult, and is helping to bring in the Antichrist. If you are a Christian and these words offend you, it is probably because your mind has been seduced by a devil.

No. The Harry Potter books are stories. Children read lots of fiction books or other stories. Reading is a good thing. At least it gets them out from in front of the X Box for a while. Christians see evil in Harry Potter books because of it being based on a school for wizards/witches. Lord help us! There are so many things to harm our children in this world! Things that are real threats to our kids. I wish as much time and effort were spent putting a stop to child molesters and drug peddlers as has been put into stopping these little books!!

It's a children's series. It might stir interest in Witchcraft or it may not. Witchcraft isn't necessarily bad, and in fact is a very positive thing for the people that practice it, so I don't see what the big fuss is. I guess if you are a Christian parent and you want to censor your child from anything that could possibly make them curious about things non-Christian, Harry Potter might be one of the many things.

You can't protect them from everything. Sometimes keeping children from things is what makes them more curious. So I suggest you let them see/read it, and talk to them about it afterwards.

I absolutely love Harry Potter and I think J.K. Rowling is a fantastic author. I remember reading the books in 3rd grade and in my freshman year of band camp I bought the last book and everybody was reading Harry Potter we were all racing each other to see who could finish it first, lol. Harry Potter is such a good book it's all about adventure, fantasy, courage, and friendship. It's for all ages as well. I mean I know 3rd graders who read the series and I know people well into their 70's who love the series. It appeals to everyone. It's obvious your grandmother has never even bothered to read a Harry Potter book with the false assumptions she's making. Maybe have her try to read one of the Harry Potter books and see for herself how good it is. For every person that doesn't like the series, there's three times the amount of people who do love them. J.K. Rowling is a genius her books have sold over 400 million copies and has been translated into over 67 countries. That's amazing. One Harry Potter book outsells the entire Twilight series. Just don't listen to your grandmother, let your son read the books all he wants. Trust me, whatever happens to him it's not going to be because of a book series.

I doubt it's bad for children, unless your religion is strictly against any kind of magic, witchcraft, or wizardry. Kids can probably decipher the difference between a magical, fictional world and the real world.

Oh, and if you're against violence due to customs or beliefs or if a child is prone to attempting to repeat things they see on television or read in books, I'd stay away from HP until they're a little older.

It gives people Young and old the idea that magic exists and this is a bad thing when there are real explanations for everything. Kids already are taught that science is wrong and not important and this is just another why to distort the real teachings of the world. POOF might be some ones idea of how the world works but it only makes reality harder to take by giving false hopes in mystical powers.

a lot of kids cant distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy. kids believe in Santa Clause..so why not believe in witchcraft? if parents tell their children the truth it wouldn't be a problem. kids are acting out violent crimes from video games...what makes you think they will think witchcraft is fake? personally..i wouldn't let my nephew watch it. he can watch it when he's older. old enough to know that it's not real.

Harry Potter is nothing but good fiction literature for children to read. It has nothing to do with real Witchcraft, it is pure fantasy.

I really don't see how the Harry Potter series of books could be any worse for kids than other fantasy or science-fiction books, including the likes of The Hobit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Tolkein.

Yes, It is bad for children. I know that alot of people disagree with me but I don't want my kids reading anything that has to do with witchcraft at all. Or watching it either!!
