I bought a toyota Camry 2007 model in July '06. It been exactly 1 year and i have clocked 18000 odd kilometers(its in canada). have done 3 service checks till now-at 1000km,8000km and 15000 km. M y question is does the camry's engine consume an excessive lot of "engine oil"????
becoz its just 3000 km from the last service(including engine oil top-up),and the level is already just above minimum.another 1 week of driving and I have to go in again for a top-up. the Toyota service people say its becoz its a new car and hasnt clocked many kilometers yet,and asked me to wait till abt 25000 for the engine to get acclimitized. IS it true???i thought for new cars the engine is supposed to be smooth and less maintenance required?....pls help me...

My 04 Camry 4 cylinder has never used a drop of oil between any of the 5,000 mile Mobil 1 oil changes.

The engine oil consumption you are describing is not normal. I'd drive it to the dealer and demand a motor replacement or repair or drive it through his bathroom window.

Toyota has a lot of quality problems,I don't see why people think they are so good. The oil burning is a major problem on these engines,Toyota has said it will not fix the problem, that it is the owners fault for not changing the oil regularly. Also look at the new Tundra, has a major camshaft problem and over 70 service bulletins(recalls) on it.http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/20

Your Camry should NOT be consuming so much oil. Go to a different dealer. Something is wrong.

reminded me of my Jetta, in my case it's a faculty piston ring, which required some major overhaul, but I was ****** because VW refused to pay for it even thought it was under warranty.
