I have a serious problem. When I'm away, my cat, Floppy, seems to be quite the prankster. He constantly faxes me pictures of his butt while I'm at work. I can't disconnect my fax machine because I need it for my work. I've tried spanking him, giving him time-out, and even faxing him pictures of MY butt, but that doesn't seem to faze him. I need help! How do I stop him?!

He may be suffering mental problems. Take him to the hospital for a cat scan.

Are you having them share the same litter box? You should have a box just for the first kitty and one for the new 2 to share, if they are friends. Some people say you need one box per cat. Anyway that is the first thing i would try. If that is not helping, you could try separating them for awhile, if not all the time, which might not be feasible, shut them in different parts of the house for the night. Make sure first cat is in his own "territory" or favorite place to hang out/sleep and his box is in his usual place and that the others don't go there, and shut them in another room with their own box at night. As the interlopers, they should be given whatever space you can give them that doesn't interfere too much with the first cat's space. These boundaries can change as they get used to each other, but the first cat needs to feel respected, so do what you can to let him know he's not going to have to give up the whole house to the new ones.

The most obvious answer would be to cover the machine. If you go to a store like Walmart, or similar place, they have clear plastic containers that could be placed upside down over the machine, so that Floppy couldn't get to it. I've used these containers for many things (cutting holes in sides when needed) and they're great! I use a few of these Sterlite containers, sans lids, for litter pans. They're taller than regular litter pans, so my male (raise your butt when peeing) doesn't "go" over the side anymore. Anyway, covering the fax machine w/something seems to be the best way to go......good luck.

Have the fax machine in a desk the has a door the locks shut. Or spray Bitter Apple on it.

Perhaps you should put a cover over the fax machine while you are out - you never know who else he might be sending them to. Possibly your cat is involved in some of the many online cat-porn sites and I'm sure you don't want to be getting a visit from the kitty-porn squad.
Also I would advise trying to wean him off the catnip - he's probably only doing it to feed his habit. Ask your vet about Kitty rehab/detox I'm sure he'll be able to help.

Put a box over your fax machine. Don't give your friends your house keys.

Seriously????

Why not lock him in another room while you're out. Or move the fax machine into another room. OR lock your friends out of your apartment.

Alternatively, give his driving license and cell phone number to the cops and let them take it from there.

Close the door to the room. If you live in a studio apartment with no doors, stick a box over the machine.
