YES, TURN IF IN FOR AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND IF THAT DOES NOT WORK BUY A NEW ONE.

BUT I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT REUSE IT.

Wonderful that she had the baby in the back seat. The baby seat should not be trusted after an accident of that severity. Just make a claim on the insurance for the costs of a new one.

She has to have the seat replaced. She will need to get the airbags and possibly the seatbelts replaced where there were occupants.

Even in her car seat manual it will say to replace it. The ONLY car seat manufacturer that says to call them before replacing is Britax. IF she had a Britax she can call the company to check (but since her airbags were deployed, they would say replace it). Get it in with the insurance claim. MOST insurance companies will replace the seat. They will take the old car seat from you so it is properly destroyed.

Regardless of what the car seat looks like, the straps have been stretched in the accident and the entire structure may have been weakened. Add it to the insurance claim. And make sure that it is destroyed so that nobody else can re-use it; it is no longer safe.

Most safety experts recommend replacing any child or bay seat that has been in a crash. If it was mine,I would replace it with no second thoughts.

Turn it in with the insurance claim. It needs to be repalced. Dont take a chance on it looking fine.

Take it to the local police or fire station and see if they can check it for you. I would examine it very closely and see if the plastic looks altered in any way. (discoloration, cracking, especially around the seatbelt) Also, call the manufacturer and ask them, they may be able to tell you what you can do to check it out more. Good luck, and I hope that everyone feels better soon!
