My 20-month old mini doxie gained 2 pounds over the past 6 months. She is now almost 9 pounds.

Here is what she normally eats per day:
2 baby carrots
1 small cookie (ol mother hubbard)
1/2 cup kibble
2 tablespoons chicken OR beef (ccoked)

Is that too much for her?

She is a red smooth coat mini doxie. The vet saw her a few days ago but made no comment about her weight.

Depends, what does your vet say? Cut out the cookie and cut back the kibble to 1/3 cup if the dog is over weight. I have three mini dachshunds and 50 years experience. The chicken or beef is fine but do you feed this mixed in with the kibble or as a treat. If as a treat cut it back to one tablespoon. Veggies are fine. Dogs usually like carrots, peas, string beans and few others. Stay away from fruits as they contain too much sugar. Oh, what kibble are you feeding. With a mini dachshund you can afford a super premium kibble. Some of them are: Solid Gold, Canidae, Innova, Natural Balance, Wellness, Flint River Ranch, Blackwoods, Pinnacle and a few others. As a rule of thumb, any dog food you can buy in a super market is not going to be the best.

At 20 months your mini is just about fully grown. I wonder if it is a smooth coat? With a smooth coat you should just be able to see the ribs when the dog is standing and when laying on its side you should see the ribs. The dog should always have a nice tuck up from the rib cage to the hips. One other thing about dachshunds is that they need to be obedience trained. They are very smart dogs and if allowed they will train you. They will train you that it is OK to pee in the house or bark whenever they want or other bad behavior. Train them and you will have a super pet and a safer one.

I sugguest you don't give any cookies to your dog, it has a too much sugar. Beef is not great for dogs, it has a lot of fat. Chicken is okay but try to limit it on special occasions or maybe once or twice a week.

I know dogs love sweets and meat but dog food is usually the best way to go if you're nto sure whats good and bad for dogs.

However, your dog is still kind of a puppy so its not weird that shes still growing a little.

First of all, if you have a computer, go on line and research what your puppy should or should not eat. Cookies that are loved by kids, should not be given to animals, if you want to give them treats, buy doggie ones that are healthier for them.
Contrary to popular belief, your pet is a pet, and while valuable as a companion, they are not humans, so don't treat them as such. Even animals deserve the right to be treated with dignity.

i think it is. if it is a small dog u should onlt feed it a 1/2 of cup of dry dog food in the morning & another 1/2 cup at night with a couple snacks here & there. tht is plenty for a dog.

at that age you should be feeding her no more than 1.5 cups of dry food per day (in one feeding). No people food. Dachunds will get overweight very easy and this leads to health problems later in life. Especially their backs.

The meat is high in protein and although it is good maybe it is too much for her lil body to handle!
you need to call and ask your Vet dear what they think is a good diet for her!
