Even if it was clear that the missile came directly from Tehran, I doubt that the city would be attacked in total. If we knew where it came from the most likely response would be to make a surgical strike if possible.
In light of the current lack of accountability shown on capitol hill by the majority, if it happened tomorrow they'd find a way to blame President Bush and apologize to anyone they could think of for offending them.
Wow, am I as bitter as I sound?
No,
sadly, I've been forced to be a realist.

Logically no it would not cease to exist. It all depends on how extensive the damage wasa from the weapon. If it was a bad weapon then we might just start world war III. However, there would be an investigation and world talks before there was retaliation if it was just America that was hit. Yes America loves to go to war, but we make sure we have a viable reason to attack someone before we do it, we dont just attack because we think they did it, and I know someone will say, well we didnt find any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Well that isnt the only reason we went into Iraq. Saddam was doing mass genoside on his own people, and testing chemical weapons on them. We went in to keep him from using those weapons on "YOU", and no one is grateful for it.

If we could prove the weapons came from there or were supported by Iran, then yes, radioactive dust is all that would be left of any urban area in Iran. I seriously doubt we would just arbitrarily nuke Tehran, but rather an investigation would follow and the guilty parties would be found....and destroyed.

Stated U.S.Policy is that our response to the aforementioned attack includes the use of nuclear weapons. It does not say that nukes are the only option. The Commander in Chief has the power to utilize our nuclear arsenal. He is not and never will be the only official involved in that decision.Do you really think that any sitting president can launch a nuclear attack "just because"?

If Tehran were responsible for it, then maybe. Or if Bush is still in office, then Tehran might cease to exist even if there is no attack on America. Just like what happened to Baghdad.

If they were the culprits you can bet we would respond rapidly and with decisive force. Our government has previously stated that its response to such attacks would be nuclear and decisive if the antagonists could be identified.

And what is your rationale for that scenario, pray tell? Why would Tehran cease to exist? Explain yourself.
