This comment goes out to all of the NASCAR fans out there. Since there is an off week and we really cant talk about the race this weekend, I figured I would switch it up a bit. Whether you call NASCAR a sport, an event or whatever, for me and a lot of you out there it is more than a sport. Nothing is more exciting than being at a race with hundreds of thousands of people and seeing that green flag drops and all that excitement and speed passes by you, carrying on a tradition that was started long before we were born. Whether you root for Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon, we all have one thing in common. Putting on our drivers colors almost every weekend and cheering our hearts out. NASCAR has come a long way from the backwoods reputation that it now receives with millions of dollars being shuffled around in sponsorship and whatnot. Everyone that reads this, put where you are from, how long you have been following NASCAR, and who your favorite driver is.

WV, 10 YEARS, MARTIN TRUEX JR.

North Carolina, 47 years, any Earnhardt, Truex and JPM.

Pre-D. Earnhardt favorites: "Pops", Speedy Thompson, Buck Baker, Rex White, Glenn Roberts, Pearson, Lorenzen, Junior Johnson, and Pedro Rodriguez when he raced.

If Earnhardt was out of the race, drivers I would root for were Rudd, the Labontes and Gant.

By the way, I wanted Earnhardt to reach 8 Titles very badly but both the Labontes won Titles during Earnhardt's career with Bobby's coming in what turned out to be Earnhardt's last best chance. Honestly, after I knew Earnhardt had lost that 8th Cup to Bobby, I was happy for Bobby.

I, like all Earnhardt fans, figured Dale would have other opportunities. It wasn't meant to be but I'm still happy for Bobby for winning a Cup he deserved after 9 years of trying.

So, Gordon winning races and Championships can't be one of the reasons I don't like him. ; -)

Sorry, couldn't help it!

I only brought all this up to make a point. Drivers, no matter how much we may like them, will always come and go. Rules will come and go. Sponsors, owners, tracks all come and go.

Frances even come and go.

Fans will always be disgruntled with management and winners always cheat.

Racing and racing fans are the only constants in this sport and that's why I love it.

To all my NASCAR brothers and sisters from whatever corner of the country and even world you may call home, peace on ya and welcome y'all.

You too, Gordon fans. I may be a member of the ABG Club but was once on the receiving end of the ABE Club and there will be no pity nor mercy shown. That's just not NASCAR.

Anyway, having withstood it for 16 years, you can hang on for a few more.

One thing I was always grateful to Gordon for was he helped make Earnhardt more popular. Thanks Jeff!

Good night y'all and keep it between the walls.

I have been following nascar for 22 years. I fell in love with the sport so much that I made a career out of taking care of the drivers. I work as a jump medic in turn four at Talladega. If you have not seen a race at Talladega, every fan needs to. I live in Alabama and I am a Dale Jr fan.
