How about a church/pastor/religion who called the divorced and remarried people an abomination?
How about a church/pastor/religion that said that anyone who filed bankruptcy or defaulted on a student loan was a degenerate?
So, why do you tolerate a church/pastor/religion that uses such names to describe the supposed "sin" of homosexuality?
From a literal interpretation of the Bible, those who do not turn from their sin of adultery/divorce by being celibate, obesity/glutton by losing weight, or stealing/bankruptcy by repaying the debt, will not inherit the kingdom of God. Just as fundies say, homosexuals who do not turn will not go to heaven.
So, why do you tolerate such hateful words and actions towards homosexuals by the fundamentalists...degenrate, abomination, scum of the earth...but, would not tolerate such language in relation to other suppsed "sinners"?
Serious question,

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that homosexuals, as people are an abomination. Certain BEHAVIORS are abhorrent, but not people.
So if I went to a church, and the pastor started calling PEOPLE those things, I would leave, and never have anything to do with that church again.

Obese: HELL YES!
They are a drain on our medical spending and resources.
I'm an athiest until science proves the existence of god but have not written it off totally (I guess I'm an agnostic leaning towards athiesm) but sign me up.
Divorce: I'd call them a looney and laugh at them. Maybe throw tomatoes.
Bankruptcy or student loan?:
if its a "for profit" church that doesn't claim to be a tax exempt organization, then I would say they have the right to say that. If they are not for profit and tax exempt then thier statement belongs in a stand up comedy act. either way I would support such a church/religious organization for either 1- realistic entrepenerial world view, or 2- entertainment value.
Homosexuality:
if they did it in an amusing way and refferred only to males while having stained glass hottie lesbians on thier windows then of course I would support them.
I tolerate such language because if it is made in a funny way then everyone benefits. If not then they have wasted my time and a chance at a good joke.

That's a very good question ! I haven't attended church in ages, but when I did, it was either a Unity church or a Unitarian Universalist church. They were both welcoming congregations. I would not belong to a church that says anything like you've described, but because of my eclectic faith path and my agnosticism, I am one of those that is called "demonic" and a follower of "false religions" and "filth" by other "true Christian" churches. At one of our UU celebrations, we had a guest speaker point out that the bible has more passage against GREED, than homosexuality, and she said (tongue in cheek) that she would get behind a church forbidding gay clergy/gay members, just as soon as that church would put the same restrictions anyone who makes over 50K a year, and isn't giving some of it to the poor,

All have sinned and come short. Homosexuality is not any more of a sin than anything else...A preacher is not supposed to condemn anyone, just the sin....it is the homosexual lifestyle that is wrong, not the person. Someone who over eats is just as guilty. Drinking to excess all the time is a sin. Not paying your bills may not be a sin but Jesus did say we are to render to Caesar what is Caesars.. Divorce is a sin unless your spouse cheated on you..Adultery is a reason for divorce..but you are not to remarry because in the sight of God, you can only have one husband. You had one. Widows can remarry, however.

The language you describe is terrible and should not be used by Christians when describing others. Why? Because Christ commands us to treat others as we want to be treated and none of us would want to be treated this way.
When someone uses hateful words toward others, it's really more of a reflection on that person's character than it is toward the one whom they are reviling.
Of course, you realize that anti-gay Christians will immediately justify the use of "abomination" and tell you that this is not their opinion but God's. However, God calls many things an abomination and to use it exclusively in relation to gay people also gives us a clue into the speaker's character and motives.

Let us start with Yes the bible says to pay all debts and it is a sin not too. I do not recall any reference to obesity in the bible as at the time it was a sign of wealth. So I am having difficulty following your logic. You will find however churches that run programs to help people lose weight and get out of debt ,just as some churches have programs to help people to not be involved in homosexuality.Notice that a word I use here is help. Christians want to help others from doing things tat harm them. But the individual needs to want the help.

I would not tolerate any of the above... that's why I haven't been to church in quite a while.
Good point though. There are probably many christians who wouldn't tolerate the first few but will jump up on the pulpit to cast their hatred toward homosexuals.
Funny thing.... when being Christian becomes the minority and they are the ones being ridiculed.... all the "sinners" are the ones who'll be left to stand up for them..... You know what.... they probably will too.

Obviously you've had some very bad experiences with whatever church or churches you've belonged to. That's a shame. The church we attend stresses tolerance and love toward our fellow human beings. We dont have the authority to condemn anyone for what they do. I follow one Father and answer only to Him. A lot of man-made churches bastardize the Bible and it's teachings to suit their own purpose. It becomes our choice as to follow what they say or follow the word of God. I know what I've chosen.

Wonderful question and I think you have driven home a point I attempted to make a while back.
You know that I am divorced and remarried, which means I am still living in sin. .. if divorce is a sin as homosexuality is to be.
I am a Christian. . .I do believe in God, but I believe in the love of God and the grace of God through Jesus. . .He will be my judge not all these pastors or religious people who point fingers at every one but themselves. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

If I was part of the Church I would have too...
However it doesn't mean I agree with the way they went about or the statement or audience they choose...
You know what I found in the Bible last night... that Apostles and disciples are referred to as the scum of the earth... I think I was in 1 Corinthians... I have it out of context I know.... just thought you might get a laugh
