Magnets can cause perforations in the intestinal track. What I am told it takes 2 or more magnets that attract to each other. I suggest strongly a visit to the emergency room ASP.
They can see it on X-Ray and then decide if its needs to be removed with the scope.

it will not poison him but it could cause problems if he has swollowed anything else magnetic that will stick to it.

There is a reason they put an age limit on toys. Etch a sketch is not for a 20 month old.

Magnets can cause serious problems in the intestines, especially if more than one is swallowed. They attract each other in the digestive tract and tear the intestines. So it's good you called the doctor. They'll probably have him in for x-rays.

Next time give him an age-appropriate toy!

It's bad for children to swallow anything magnetic. Magnets can contain harmful "chemicals" & if a child swallows more than one it can cause some kind of reaction that can be extremly harmful. I'd take him to the emergency room.

A warning just came out about toddlers swallowing multiple magnets off toys that have them embedded in plastic. ~

I think he'll be ok. I mean surely health and safety standards wouldn't allow any part of a toy to be toxic. Hope the little fellas alright. x

I don't think that nub will cause him any problems and he'll probably pass that tiny piece of metal with no problem.

It should be okay if it is just one magnet. Read this article.
