"Citizen Kane" for instance, is supposed to be the best American Movie ever, but i'm just medium about it. I can understand that it had cinematic breakthroughs and whatnot, but eh. Could be anything...food, movies, books...you get it.

Another example, I think the LDS religion is a very good one, because they have a living prophet who can change God's mind anytime. But...

American Idol

I think the concept degrades and mentally tortures contestants for the sake of entertainment of the masses.

But it does extraordinarily well at accomplishing it's goal of making money for the producers.

I think one of the craziest examples of this was one of Noam Chomsky's theories (having to do with the relationship between language and the brain) was recognized as being both brilliant and flat wrong.

And while we are on the topic of classic movies. You can watch the original 39 Steps on google video (it is in the public domain). It's a great film that has inspired countless imitations ever since it came out (up to and including the Jason Bourne character).

Oh one more: Fives and Sevens era Louis Armstrong

The musical Chicago. The music is good, the acting is good, but the storyline is terrible although it is a commentary on our society today, money gets you everywhere.
And if the LDS church is right (which I think it is) then it isn't the prophet changing God's mind, it is God changing the prophet's mind.

"Kane" is like a primer for cinematic storytelling, but it's not for everyone.

"Cats" didn't do much for me, and I love musicals...and felines. Frankly, I found it boring.

I think Charlotte Church's voice is awful and Luciano Pavarotti is greatly overrated. His voice is too nasal for my ears, even though many hail him as the "world's greatest tenor."

And whoever first proclaimed Dustin Hoffman a "superb" actor didn't know what he was talking about.

The Sopranos, a highly rated series but I could never bring myself to watch it as the subject matter was so harsh.

I really just don't like cooked carrots. I have tried to like them. I have in fact acknowledged that cooked carrots are "very good," but I do not like them.

I think plums are overrated too.

religion IS a good force...but its good is limited.

it has the ability to keep people from doinghings like killing and raping and other things.

but it also has alot of bads. it puts people into groups that usually hate each other/divides them. it can be a reason people go to war or kill.

so maybe it isnt religion thats good....maybe its the threat of hell or the promise of heaven...or the promise of prizes for good behavior.

"It's a Wonderful Life". I know it's supposed to be the standard for Christmas movies, but I really can't stand it.

The Godfather. I couldn't finish it but it's hard to argue against it because of it's popularity.
