Turkey Vultures eat only carrion and not live animals, so they would be worthless for Falconry as they do not hunt live animals. They have an exceptional olfactory sense to help them locate rotting flesh in addition to their excellent eyesight.

Since you will not find a falconer who uses turkey vultures, I took the liberty to answer your question as a biologist.

I saw a 15th century list that mentioned vultures as being a falconry bird for a high ranking person. I had to look into this matter. I wondered if their "vulture" was referring to a different kind of bird as terms change. I did find one type of vulture that may hunt--the bearded vulture. I've been reading about it and it is a fascinating animal. But it is not a bird in the region of that list, which I think was England. Apparently vultures are used by modern falconers seemingly for show not hunt. Some say it is a mocked practice? I am not so sure using them for hunting is entirely impossible now, though.

What I would really like to see is for a person using a Turkey vulture as a raptor recover his bird after a kill. Besides the leather sleeve, you would need a heavy prop for your arm.

Beyond the fact that vultures are carrion eaters and not used at all for falconry, you can't buya raptor for falconry use.

You earn a falconer's license and get a permit to capture an appropriate bird. And your experience will dictate what bird you can get a permit to capture.

They are good for display falconers but not for hunting birds. Vultures being scavengers have a tendancy to sod off and look for something dead. However in a display they can be incredibly impressive and entertaining if it's done right.
We used to use a lappet faced vulture in our displays. she mostly used to stomp around on the floor because most vulture find it very difficult to get off the ground.

Well, Gina, unless you are planning on "hunting" roadkill, that Turkey Vulture won't do you any good. They are not hunters, they are scavengers.

Do you have any idea how much one of those types of birds would weight?

Not far from here is a place called Buzzard Roost, I have no doubt you'd be able to find a buzzard there.
