Since it is financing Romney's campaign for the presidency?

"The Church" isn't financing it. It's reattributing some of its assets into the names of individuals, who are then financing Romney's campaign.

Legally, that's how a "trust" like the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (yes, that's the actual registered name of the legal entity that we know as "The LDS Church") can continue to be a tax-free institution.

In related news, we are all about to find out just how much money the Church is really worth... a guy in Oregon is suing the Church for $45 million, and the Church's books have to be opened to public view in order to establish that $45 million is a "reasonable penalty" for the Church to pay.

FINANCING ROMNEY'S CAMPAIGN?! are you crazy?
1) Romney's has so much money (hes worth over 250 million, much more than any other candidate)
that he doesn't need the Mormon Church to finance him.
2)the Church would never give any one person so much money for such a worldly thing like a presidential campaign. Members of the church PAY tithing, the church doesn't finance personal interests.
Get your information correct before you say crap on the Internet.

Tax exemption is a blatant violation. The Mormon Church shouldn't be singled out.

I think all churches should lose their tax-free status.

If they are a 501c3 non-profit group, then they are not allowed to endorse a candidate.
