Good advice thus far, but I recommend you take your guitar into a reputable music store and ask for type brands and prices of good strings to be installed on your instrument. After making your choice and buying them there, ask that they be installed by a technician. Usually, they do it free of charge.

Well just don't buy nylon ones, most guitar strings costs about, $12.00 - $20.00, you can get them cheaper or more expensive, this is the average, make sure that you buy a decent set, after all you want a good sound, when you go to get them tell the clerk what kind of guitar you have and ask what he recommends, ok, bye !

You need steel strings. The guage is up to you and determines the softness/hardness of the strings. If you are a hard strummer I would go with a thicker guage. If you do a lot of picking I'd go with a thinner guage. Thinner guages are easier on the fingers in my opinion. Remember to let your stings stretch before really going at it or they'll break.
There are many brands. Don't buy the cheapest ones.

Well yes, if you care at all about sound quality.
Strings last a good amount of time so go for the good ones.
