I LOVE this musical! It's a very good way to teach people of Jesus..... well.... it's a really good VERSION. Some hard core Christians have a problem with the way Judas is played as a victim. I think it makes total sense.
It's a great tool to use. Just listen to any one of the songs by Jesus (especially the garden of Gethsemane song) and you will se the teachings and the characters are very real and true.
However, if you are looking to teach younger kids about Jesus and the bible storys i would suggest "Godspell". It's a great deal more family friendly. I've performed in both shows so i can say that they are very much worth a listen!

It's definitely a work of art.
As a Christian, I don't think the story went far enough. I think it should have followed through to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Without the resurrection, the story is insignificant and becomes just another story about a guy who thought it would be nice if everyone would be nice to everyone else for a change.
It was the first "rock opera", and it pioneered a new artform, that's for sure. I've enjoyed the show (especially when Dennis DeYoung of Styx played the role of Pontius Pilate). I wasn't too thrilled with the movie.

There is a movie version out. I saw this so many years ago. It is the time before the Crucifixion, the Garden of Gethsemene story, and more. The music is awesome! You might could hear it online. I remember the song 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' which was so popular around 1970. THe songs are upbeat rock, soulful, and unforgettable. Wish I could go with you.

it didnt teach me a thing about xianity...the guy that played jesus was hot though :)
