I want to become and Ultrasound technician and have run into multiple problems. I live in Atlanta GA and have found only one school that offers it. I don't trust that they are accredited nor do I wish to recieve a diploma so I have ruled them out. My problem is I was told that I must first take an associates program in Radiological Technology (X-Ray Tech) before I can take the Ultrasound program anywhere. Is that even true? Is there not school in Atlanta, or Georgia for that matter, that lets me take Ultrasound Technology without forcing me to take Radiology Technology first? I was told that Ultrasound tech programs can be finished in 9 months... At this rate its going to take four years ON TOP of the fact that I already have an associate's degree. Help!!

You can go directly into ultrasound without doing rad tech first (which you can do in 2 years, you don't need a bachelors).

Check these schools, which are accredited for sonography:

Coosa Valley Technical College - Rome, GA
Grady Memorial Hospital - Atlanta, GA
Medical College of Georgia - Augusta, GA
Ogeechee Technical College - Statesboro, GA
Sanford Brown Institute - Atlanta, GA

What is your degree in? If it's medical related, you may be able to test out of a lot of the classes for radiology. You do have to do radiology first, and get your cert in that before you can ultrasound. I don't know if you have vocational schools there, but I know here, there are few schools that just do the limited radiology cert, and then jump you into the ultrasound classes.

Have you tried calling some of the colleges in your area, or asking employers about what they like to see in their techs? That might be a place to start. Good luck!! You have picked a good field!!

You can probably google each school to see what they require for admission. Best wishes....
