With the right bullet and the right scope it is possible.

It depends on the scope and the bullet used. Yes it's possible. One thing not being concidered here is the tremendous aount of shock a bullet creates on impact. Many calibers travel faster than 2000 feet per second and the larger grain bullets can take elephants down. If you had your gun up and had the scope near your eye and someone shoots it with a high powered rifle the scope would impact your eye with enough force to inflict great damage whether or not the bullet penetrated the scope and into your head. So you could be killed either way.

This feat was also shown in the movie "Saving Private Ryan" in which an american sniper using a 1903A3 30-06 caliber bolt action Springfield rifle and Unertl scope killed a German sniper this way (thru his scope and his eye to his brain)

I have friends that are currently marine snipers and I put this question to them a few months back. All three said it was possible, but the odds that the conditions would be such that a direct shot thru a scope would be more attributed to "luck" than skill. If you think about it the bullet would have to pierce a few glass/plastic lenses, and no be deflected. This would be a feat by anyone's standards. I would say based on what I have learned that it is in fact possible, just not likely....

Mythbusters are just "recreating" situations. I would be hard pressed to take their findings literally..They are former stuntmen/entertainers.not trained sharpshooters or snipers.

Is it possible to kill someone by shooting them through their scope? Well, let me see; the bullet punches through some glass and goes straight into the eye-socket. The eye itself will prove to be not real, real resistant to a speeding bullet. Behind the eye there's a bit of bone and the... Brain. Hmmm! What do you think?
LOL!

At the risk of being repetitive, my answer is that it's possible. It is very difficult to prove that something is impossible. The question doesn't ask what the likelihood of the event is. Lots of people seem to be responding to some "experiment" performed on "Mythbusters." I have little respect for this program. Usually, experiments are considered to have no more significance than n -1. Since these geniuses always do 1 experiment, n = 1. The arithmetic suggests that their experiments have zero significance and do not offer "proof" of anything.

Yes, it is possible.
The story originates from a Marine Corps sniper named Carlos Hathcock. See the link below.
Mythbusters did some experiments with this. Initial tests failed but after lots of viewer feedback they retested it and were able to shoot through a scope with armor piercing bullets.
See the source links below for more information.

It is very possible. Even if the bullet did not make it all the way through the scope the glass and force of the bullet would likely kill you anyway.

1 in a million chances. It probably did happen with Carlos Hathcock but it probably will never happen in a combat situation again.

First, you have to be aiming at their scope and they have to be aiming at your scope. Then it all depends on who pulls the trigger first to see who gets their scope shot through.

Yes. A US sniper did it in Vietnam and based upon that story, the MythBusters did it also. It requires both scopes to be looking exactly straight at each other, so he who pulls the trigger first wins.....

The mythbusters couldn't do it, but they got the idea from a real-life episode involving Carlos Hathcock and a NVA sniper, so it's happened once, at least. Put it in the category of freak accident, but it has happened. This is doubtless the episode that prompted the scenes in the movies, as well.
