how can i make my bastard of a dog to stop chewing up my shoes??

I agree that picking up your shoes is the best method, but I also know that isn't always possible. Try using the sprays they sell at Petsmart/PetCo/etc to discourage dogs from licking and chewing on their bandages. Just spritz it on your shoes - I think it usually comes in chili flavor and sour apple. Or, you can try some cinamon oil or a touch of citronella (yes, like the bug candles). Just a tiny bit should work since dogs have such a strong sense of smell. Might make your shoes smell a little, but they will be in tact.

You can find a toy for him to chew on instead. A soft toy with a squeaker is a good idea, and so are rope toys. If he still persists, you can purchase a bitter apple spray and put that on your shoes. It's a spray, so it's not like the shoes will be soaking in this chemical, so it'll be alright for you to use. The bitter apple repels the dog from chewing on it. Obviously, it has a bad taste; though, you wouldn't think there's a worse taste than hot rubber...

hate to be a ***** but dont do anything sydmom said. thats NOT how u want to train a puppy, he's teething and puppies chew a LOT. give him a lot of bones etc. Get a water bottle, poke a hole in the cap and squirt the dog every time hes chewing on the shoe. Dont let the dog see u do it, he'll think its the wall or shoe and will chew on something else. Never punish a dog by putting it in its crate, their crate is their space and they are suppose to feel comfortable in it. Hope this helped...

Well, first of all, don't blame your dog. If it's a puppy, chewing is natural. If it's older, it might like the smell or taste of your shoes. Just put your shoes up out the dogs reach and get him some chewing bones.

Get him chew toys or a big bone, and keep your shoes in your closet. I've got probably 3 decent sized bones, and probably 6 or 7 other chew toys around the house. He might be too lazy to get up and go get his chew toy, and your shoe is the closest thing. Keep toys around so he doesn't have to go far to chew on something.

Don't leave your shoes where he can get to them. Put them up high, or in a closet with the door closed. Also, give him "legal" chews like chew toys from the pet store.

You need a dog trainer, watch the Caesar Millan, Dog Whisperer TV show or DVDs they may help some and other then that just put your shoes where he cannot reach them or get to them. Maybe in a closet that is shut. I'm sorry that you called your dog a bastard, I'm sure its frustrating but its a behavior issue its not like he is doing it to make you mad. Make sure he is getting plenty of attention and lots of exercise.

Instead of blaming the dog, who is probably chewing your shoes when you aren't around because he misses you and loves you, try putting your shoes away before you leave the house. Out of sight, out of mind.

Aw, now, be nice! Your dog is showing his frustration because you leave. Try picking up your shoes and putting them somewhere out of reach and then give him something else to chew on while you're gone.

put your shoes up high and out of the way, never scold your dog for deeds that have been done, only ever reprimand if you catch him in the act. i find it is best to just say "drop" and take the shoe away, then give him a toy he is supposed to have and praise. help your dog learn the difference.
I don't know what kind of dog you have but i find Nylabones to be a great toy for chewers, as well as kongs and rope toys.
