You get the diamond (the big one) as an engagement ring. The smaller ring (band) you get at the wedding ceremony.

You can do either/or. Some people get a set of rings - the engagement ring is worn by itself between the engagement and the wedding, and then the wedding band (that the engagement ring kind of fits into) gets put on, and they are worn together. Or you can get an engagement ring first, and then pick out a wedding band that matches. You can even get rings that don't match at all, if this is what you want - you can always wear the wedding band on the left hand, and the engagement ring on the right. It is completely up to you.

When you get proposed to, the guy will give you an engagement ring. No wedding rings until the ceremony. At ceremony, you put both of these on the same finger. Sometimes the husband to be will by the engagement ring in a set of two, w the wedding ring, so that they will match better later on though

The Engagement Ring can be bought when two people become engaged to each other. These days the meaning has been replaced by how big a diamond you can get, or so it seems. You don't actually have to have a ring, and it doesn't have to be a diamond. The Wedding rings used to be just a plain golden band;nowadays they come in different designs and metals. The whole point of wearing the band on the wedding finger was to signify that person was unavailable to be courted. But even that doesn;t seem to matter any more.

Even if it is a set, you get the engagement ring when the man proposes and you get formally engaged. When you get married, at the wedding you take off the engagement ring, some put it on the other hand, some put it on another finger, some have the Maid/Matron of Honor hold on to it for a time until the wedding ring is put on and then after the ceremony or right then, the bride puts the engagement ring on on top of the wedding ring.

the engagement ring is usually the big one. Its usually the fancy diamonds etc. The wedding band is usually complimentary to the engagement ring, its smaller, thinner, sometimes has gems, sometimes doesnt. Most couples get the 2 infused together after the wedding so they can be worn on the same finger, all jewlers will do that for free if you bought both the engagement and wedding band from them. Most rings will come in a set, engagement and wedding band.

Contrary to what the other answerer said, you don't wear your engagement ring on your right hand. ! It stays on your left hand when you get engaged. Then at the alter when he gives you your wedding band, it goes on the same finger with your engagement ring. Usually couples will go out and choose a set. Sometimes the man just buys something he thinks is pretty and then you both go and find a wedding set together that matches. Hope that helps!

The engagement ring is the one with the diamond ( usually a solitaire diamond) and the wedding ring is the band. Yes they can be bought as a set, using the band on the wedding day to rejoin the set. A lot of ring sets come with the engagement, wedding band and the wedding band for the groom. Use the bands at the wedding then you can put the engagement ring and the band together after the ceremony.

You can buy them in sets of 3. Engagement and his and her wedding bands. You wear the engagement ring before you get married, that is the promise, then the wedding rings when you get married. Most woman wear the two together everyday. You can take them to the jeweller and have them put together with a little welding gold silver or what ever your rings are made of.
Hope that helps.

Traditionally, a man gives his girlfriend a diamond ring which has one larger, solitary diamond on the top. On the wedding day, you take that off, give it to the ring bearer, and you get both your new wedding ring, and your engagement ring back.
The reason you have to take the engagement ring off at all is that the wedding ring (plain ring) goes closest to your heart. Since it has to be on the inside, you have to take your original ring off.
Hence two rings.
When you've been married a while, some women get a third ring, which is an anniversary ring. You wear that on on the outside.
