We only give our cat, Jules hard food and he eats it occasionally but he likes it with water.
i.e: He will paw his food into his water bowl and eat it, or I will pour water on his food and he will eat it but other wise hr doesn't really like it that much.
he is 10 years old and the vet said he had perfect and strong teeth... :(

And the vet we went to is a German vet and e was very good.
German Doctors are usually better than American doctors. They have many more years of education.

Maybe you should try giving him canned food, if he already has perfect and strong teeth, why not???
If not you can still give him his food doused with water, I don't think there is anything wrong with that!

I hope this answer helped : )

It would be cool to think that your cat is trying to tell you he wants to eat soft food - but frankly I have no idea why he's doing it!

It's safe enough for him to eat wet dry food, so long as you immediately take up any that he doesn't eat. It's not good for it to remain wet sitting in the bowl.

But just on the offchance, why not try him on canned food? Don't worry about his teeth - dry food doesn't help keep them clean, and canned food doesn't rot the teeth. If anything, a good canned food is better for dental health because it doesn't contain sugar like dry foods do.

Here are some to try. Or if you want, you can try him on the RC canned foods. I don't personally think they're the greatest, but they're probably better than supermarket brands, and it seems obvious you care about your guy, so....

Dry foods are not really good for cats. 95% of the moisture is zapped out during the processing and cats do get their mositure needs from their foods. Dry foods are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats have trouble procssing as well as fillers, bad parts of meats and many use a vegetable based protein verses animal. Dry food is the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as a contributing factor in obesity, kidney disease, crystals ect. Please read the labels. Is the first ingrediant a muscle meat? Are grains in the first 3 ingrediants for an obligate carnivore?

It is just not true that dry food is better for teeth then wet
'Long-standing claims that cats have less dental disease when they are fed dry food versus canned food are grossly overrated, inaccurate, and are not supported by recent studies. Many veterinarians are coming to the realization that this is a myth that needs to be dispelled. First, dry food is hard, but brittle, and merely shatters with little to no abrasive effect on the teeth. Second, a cat's jaws and teeth are designed for shearing and tearing meat, and cats that eat dry food grind it in a way that it ends up between their teeth. There it ferments into sugar and acid, thereby causing dental problems. Third, many cats swallow the majority of their dry food whole and thus receive minimal benefit from chewing motion. There are many factors that contribute to dental disease in the cat such as genetics, viruses, and diet. There remain many unanswered questions concerning the impact of diet on dental health, but feeding a high carbohydrate, species-inappropriate dry kibble diet is a negative factor, not a positive one. Perhaps a more effective way to promote dental health is to feed large chunks of raw meat which is what cats’ teeth are designed to chew. (See 'Making Cat Food')'

has he had wet food in the past? many cats prefer the jucier, fattier taste of wet food...

i say either just let him eat it with water or try mixing it with wet food, theres nothing wrong with mixing it with water other than it not lasting as long out in the bowl...

good luck!

Maybe your kitty is trying to tell you its teeth hurt when it eats the dry hard food and it prefers to eat something softer and less painful.

No problem then, just add the water to his dry food. The more water, the better for his kidneys and urinary tract health, actually.

If you get a little spray bottle of water and spend a few seconds per day to make your cat happy, is that so much?
