Since when did my belief mean that life has no meaning or intent? I must not have gotten the memo as I've never heard of this.

And I rarely get down in the first place, but the rare times that I do, knowing that I've probably already beaten worse than what I'm going through usually motivates me to go on.

I'm a theist, and my life has plenty of meaning and intent. So do the lives of non-theists. What cheers me up the most is when I can rationally figure out a way of getting out of whatever problem has got me down, and then getting out of it as quickly as possible. I don't like wasting my time on feeling down.

To me, the meaning of life would be to follow guidelines, regulations, pros and cons, and dependency to the greater to become successful in life and enjoy the gift of life that God has given us. All you Atheist are the same, saying that your "independent" and have a self-minded conscience. Well, have you ever thought of society for an example of independence? What if we were all too independent? We depend on the police to back us up, firemen to put out fires, the president to lead the way, laws that protect us, farmers for food, and yet you call yourself independent. What if we had to grow our own food, save our home by ourselves, have a country with no laws or leaders whatsoever, or fight off criminals and terrorist by ourselves? No one in this world is independent. We all thrive and live together from the levels of classification and order. That is what I think as a Catholic about life. Religion is a haven to us all theists and we're all proud.

Uh, you're wrong on that, Squirrel. A few weeks ago, I answered a question posted by Missing Link in which he stated, -quote-unquote- "Why do theists have to believe that life has a purpose or that everything must have some meaning to it?" I do believe you'll find that theists believe very much that life has enormous meaning.

You have it backward.

It is a common human experience to associate meaning in life to a relationship of love. I've heard many people say that their meaning in life stems from their love of their children.

So if we commonly accept that love is meaning, then could you not accept that love for God is the highest form of meaning and is the source of human relationships?

Ah, but to the atheist, brain chemicals, i.e. feel good drugs, are the foundation and source of all human activities and feelings including love. So for the atheist, behind every possible source of meaning is a meaningless drug addiction.

Heh, right back at em.

I love it.

Theists believe that mankind is sooo evil and the future is sooo dim that there has to be a way to find life after this one.

Many believe that the act of being born into a sinful world is terrible enough to justify eternally torturing people. It is really sick if you think about it.

Theists? Do you mean ATHEISTS? Theists believe in a supreme being and consequently believe life has meaning.

I'm a Christian, but I would argue that there are many atheists that think life is meaningful.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question, and if so, I apologize.

Isn't life's meaning for Theists to 'glorify' god and seek as little knowledge as possible?

Just asking.
