We're talking about the most backward, uneducated and bigoted section of America. Whoever those people hate the most is quite likely to be the most decent human being in the race.

Yes! BUT all that hate, bigotry, and lack of education packaged into a pretty little box called religion makes them REALLY easy to take advantage of when looking for votes (especially in large numbers)-

remember the lord is their sheppard and they are the flock of sheep...

If they're backward, uneducated, and bigoted...then why not "cater" to them...tell them you're right and they'll believe it, right??

Yes. Unfortunately, it's also that segment of the population that tends to turn out the most politicians.
