Here are some things to that really work: You may be doing some or all of these things - redouble your efforts and be really honest.

Read labels and make wise choices. For example, you eat a green salad instead of french fries. Good choice. Except that each tablespoon of your favorite creamy dressing can have as much as 180 calories - mostly from fat. Switching to light versions or those "spritz" salad dressings can cut a huge portion of the calories - making your salad good for you again!

Portion control. If a serving of your favorite Hamburger Helper dish is 1 cup - that means a single 8 oz measuring cup - not something you "eyeball." Invest in a cheap kitchen scale and a set of measuring cups/spoons. Use them faithfully!

Drink 4-8 8oz glasses of water every day. Faithfully.

Drink 2 glasses of milk - or two servings of fat-free yogurt a day.

Eat slowly. Gulping your food only makes you feel more hungry. Eat your food slowly and savor each bite.

Keep a food diary. Write everything down. If it passes your lips write it down. No matter what. Write it down! EVERYTHING - incluing condiments and chewing gum. Everything.

Moderate exercise. If you can take the stairs - do that. If you can walk, don't drive.

NEVER EVER USE FOOD AS A REWARD!!! Just because you lost 10 lbs doesn't mean you can relax and pig out at the local food bar. When you reach a goal - buy yourself a flower or new perfume or a pair of shoes. Don't eat.

Watch out for the saboteurs - those people who aren't respectful of your diet - and insist that you try their cheesecake and won't take no for an answer. Mean people.

Be patient. It took years to put on the weight - it's going to take time to take it off. Set a goal of losing 1 - 2 pounds per week and slowly but surly, it will come off - and stay off.

Now notice I didn't say give up your favorite foods. No. Just realize that you have to write whatever you eat down in your food diary. If you want that chocolate cake - eat some. Write it down. You don't need to make 1 meal for you and 1 meal for everyone else, either. Eat real food - just write it down and use portion control. That way you're not depriving yourself of your favorites - just limiting how much of your favorites you eat.
