He is at the vets office in isolation and they are running tests to find out for sure if he has distemper. Please pray for him - the vet is fairly positive it is distemper, but I'm hoping that it is not distemper.

That is bad and you may need to start preparing to make a decision. Parvo is survivable and not after effects. Distemper on the other hand if they survive usually have many other issues to contend with the rest of its life.

I don't have an answer for you but I am in the same situation. I resecued a 4 month old puppy from the pound. In her check up, the vet noticed certain things that led him to believe she has distemper. Have you heard anything back from the vet yet? This is all very sad :(

this is the reason that you dont buy from backyard breeders who care more about money then they do about the animals. you should have had shots and medical history verified before buying the puppy. in the future, request all the information before paying and make sure the dogs are akc certified. go to the breeders house and make sure the puppy's mother (and father if possible) are on premises, make sure the place where the puppies are is clean and safe. and the breeder should have no problem w/you taking the puppy to the vet to get checked out and then taking it back (w/a full refund) if there is something wrong w/it.

I hope your puppy makes it.
There is no specific treatment for canine distemper. Therapy is largely supportive. Intravenous fluids are administered to prevent dehydration. Anti-seizure medications can be used if neurologic signs develop.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. It sounds as though he is in good hands!

Have you checked the paperwork that came with your dog? You should have been provided with all his vaccination records, and at his age, he should have had all 4 rounds.

(An excellent example to others on why you should only get your dog from a reputable breeder or shelter. I'm not berating you, just think your situation could help someone else in the future.)

Keep us posted as to your little one's progress!

Praying your puppy will be just fine.

Did you not do your part of the puppy shots either?
