What would it take on electric fan assited - would like to do it long & slow - if thats possible with fan assited !
Any comments gratefully recieved !

All kidding aside. I forgot what cut a joint is. If it's being cooked covered in the oven, the convection isn't going to help. If it's a roast, then convection will normally cut 20% of the cooking time, and cause more carmelization

Put it at the bottom of the oven add a little water cover with foil on about 150 check it every couple of hours to make sure its not drying out.

Here's in idea for you Buy some brisket or pot roast beef, put in a casserole dish or pot with half a bottle of wine and some water and salt and pepper carrots and onions if you want, cover put in the oven at 150 and leave for 4 to 5 hours longer if you wish. Then when the meat is cooked you've got a lovely gravy to go with it. This is an easy Sunday lunch as you can leave all day to do it's own thing , and so can you.

Hi Pete,

Pre-heat the oven to highest fan setting, put joint in for about 15-20mins to carmelise it a little, then turn it down to 150C and continue cooking slow ...

Need to reduce the remperature a bit then Pete. Down to about 150 degrees. Check to make sure it isn't drying out though!

I do it on a fan assisted oven, on 200 for an hour then turn it down to about 170 for a few hours more.

I WOULD BE SETTING IT TO BETWEEN 150 AND 180 FOR 4-5 HOURS SIZE DEPENDING AND POURING HALF A BOTTLE OF A NICE RED WINE AND SPRINKLE A HANDFUL OF MIXED HERBS AND A GOOD SPREAD OF COLEMANS MUSTARD OVER THE TOP AND TURN HALFWAY THROUGH SERVED WITH NEW POTATOES VEG AND A CRACKED PEPPER SAUCE(COLEMANS)AND WITH THE WINE STOCK LEFT FROM THE JOINT MIX WITH NORMAL BISTO GRAVY.......PERFECT

Um...is this a British thing or something? Cook a joint? Is that a food term? Seriously...I just thought it was a drug reference.

I do smoke, but I've never heard of cooking a joint. Can some please explain what the benefits of this are?
