I have found varying opinions when searching online. I gained a ton of weight years ago on Zyprexa, which was not the right medication for me, anyway...But I just want a straight answer about Effexor and whether there is a good proportion of people gaining weight on it. Please only answer if you're informed (i.e. you have been on it, you're a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, etc.)

Thanks.

Like I said, I want honest answers from people who know. I appreciate the suggestions about where to find information but I have been there, done that.

Please, only informed answers from personal experience or experiences with patients, etc.

Almost all the anti-depressant medications, Effexor included, have a side effect of weight gain. The weight gain is not as severe as Zyprexa. The weight gain is typically less than 10 lbs.

Effexor's Typical Side Effects: The usual for SSRIs and NRIs - headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido and a host of other sexual dysfunctions. Most everything but the weight gain and sexual dysfunctions usually goes away within a couple of weeks.

Call a couple pharmacists. They know more than doctors about this kind of thing. You can't believe what they put on the directions about side effects. They have to cover their butts, so they list everything including death!! A pharmacist will tell you the truth. Good luck!! :) -L
