Thats how they were introduced in the first place. The aqua farmers used them to keep the vegetation down in the ponds they use to breed and grow farm raised fish. There were floods in the area and the carp, which were supposed to be sterile were released into the mississippi river. They spread very fast and have a tendency to eat everything in their path to the detriment of the native species in these areas. So to answer yes they did until they got loose.

I'm afraid they're coming close to the Great Lakes, Lake Huron especially, some think it's funny, they can shot them with a bow but, what about the lakes and the pollution they bring, the sport fish.
If there were a way to use them for pet food or for cattle food, they could be harvested with nets.

I would hope so -- I hate those things -- maybe they have some recipes or something -- http://www.lib.niu.edu/ipo/2002/oi020509.html http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=20599 hope they become popular as food before they ruin too many rivers and lakes --
