There are a number of ways to answer this -

The way I ended up doing this was to put all the library files on a single shared hard drive, then point all copies iTunes to this drive as the default drive.

Then delete everything in your current library and import everything from the new hard drive.

When you add new music, by default it goes to this new hdd.

You manage which songs you want on your iPod by checking/unchecking them in your library listing.

You can also import songs from another library, providing you can get network access to that library every time you sync. When you import songs from another library it doesn't actually copy the file it only makes a pointer to where the file lives. If that other computer is off line, you won't be able to sync those particular songs. Once you get 1000s of songs in your library it's impossible to remember where they came from.

Another trick is to just copy the files with thumb drive from one hard drive to the other.

I have a network with 3 computers running iTunes. They point to one common 300Gb drive that is shared off one of the PCs.
