The problem today is that parents can't say no to their children...
From when they are a toddler... the parents give them whatever they ask... of course they aren't going to listen to their parents when they grow up... and are going to camp in front of the tv! And eat fast food...
And on the other hand you have the kids taking after their parents...!
If you'd do a little grocery shopping... you'd see how many moms who have come shopping with their kids... and buy tons of cookies, soft drinks, frozen foods, etc... etc... etc...
Rarely you'd see them buying fruits and vegetables...

This should be started at home and by the parents - many simply state how do you control what your kids eat when they are out.... ....that is simple, feed them a good hearty meal before they go out. If they have the junk food before coming home then simply withhold 'pocket money'.....or ground them. I believe any parent allowing their children to eat in such a way as we're seeing should be accountable and it should be considered abuse. Children's health, first and foremost, is the responsibility of the parents and if parents are simply feeding them this stuff or allowing them to have it as a staple diet then we must look at the (so-called) parents. I know we'll hear about time - it doesn't take much time to cook a hearty meal at the end of the day - the fact is a lot of the parents are as lazy as their children. These fast food restuarants are not the problem, everything in moderation, we need to look closer to home.

not easy when I was about 15 my parents would tell me to go outside and do some sports but I just wouldnt get up from the front of that computer, why should I there is plenty of never ending fun with internet games
why do sports when there is the internet?
Not all parents have time to make food for hungry kids so they just buy ready to eat food
(I have a small belly, I'm working on it, doing some body building but I never found sports to be that fun, I do like swimming but no where to swim)

Some parents are on the run a lot, and they don't have enough time to cook their children a good meal. They don't realize what's happening, and before they know it, their children are overweight. If this is the case, the parents just aren't creative enough. They should carry healthy snacks in the car or maybe hire a babysitter who can prepare well balanced meals.

The problem is that today people are more concerned about learning what Paris Hilton is up to rather than what they should be putting in their bodies.
Also, with people living such busy lives they can't be bothered with cooking a fresh healthy meal so that go to mc donalds or pop something in the microwave.

I couldnt agree with you more. I have a sonm with an extra slow metabolism and I plan 7 hours a week of exercise that is fun for him but helps him burn what his body doesnt while at rest like typical metabolisms do.

You are right... but you are grossly oversimplifying this. Factor in stress, genetics, work, societal pressure, money, medical conditions, time, school, ignorance, marital problems... there are a LOT of factors that make this difficult, if not impossible for some parents to deal with.
