Let me clarify.. Are all physicians working at army hosptials employed by the military? I have one particular Dr that I've never seen in uniform and am under the impression that he is not military. So would he be under contract?? Or how does that work?

There are some Doctors that work in MTF that arn't Military. They are civillian workers, and treated just like a Dr. at a civillian hospitals. Some however are Officers, and therefore under contract and paid just like any other person of their rank.

They receive the pay of the commissioned rank they hold. Upon initial entry, all physicians are given the starting rank of Lieutenant in the Navy or Captain in the Army or Air Force. In addition, they receive a bonus based on their medical specialty. If they are board-certified in that specialty, they enter at an even higher rank. They also enjoy the other benefits which come from being a commissioned officer in the military, including 30 days paid vacation a year, housing allowances, etc.

Check the last page on the pay charts of the link. They get a bunch of bonuses to include Variable Special Pay, Board Certified Pay Special Pay, Incentive Special Pay by specialty, and Multiyear Special Pay. These bonuses and incentives can easily add up to over 50k a year on top of their normal base pay, BAH and BAS as an officer.

They're paid twice a month, just like everybody else.

Many receive bonuses based on rank, length of service and specialty. Additional bonuses are available for those who commit to serve specific lengths of time.

Usually the military pays for their medical schooling in return for serving in the military. And they pay them while they serve as well.

If they are a captain they get captains pay, if they are a major they get a majors pay....they get nothing special just because they are a doctor in a military hospital

Only perk they get is they don't have to worry about malpractice insurance
