The average cat can eat between 20-30 calories per day per pound. If your cat is at a healthy weight, multiply that by 25 (for instance) and that will tell you how many total calories he can eat to maintain her current weight.
Inactive cats only get 18 calories per pound.
As for figuring out how many calories your food has, that might be tricky. I would check the website and see if it's listed, and if not, contact them to find out.

If the can says to feed one can per day then feed 1/2 can of quality food and 1/4 cup of quality dry food.
So you can feed 1/4 of a can twice a day, one can will last you 2 days.
It also depends on the weight of your cat. If you have an extra small cat, you would probably want to feed less food. If you have a larger cat that isn't overweight, you might need to feed a bit more.

It depends very much on the size of your cat and the brand of food you are feeding.
Any food should have a feeding guide on the package - you need to feed for the weight you want your cat to be, which is between 7.7-8.8lbs for average cats.
Lower quality foods are going to instruct you to feed more than higher quality foods - this is because they've got more rubbish in them and therefore more needs to be fed to get the required nutrients. Some brands suggest a daily amount that is far too much for the average cat to be capable of consuming.
Two pouches (or half a can) of food should be plenty for the average cat, this is not including additional dry food - if you're feeding dry too, the amount of canned should be less. If feeding an all dry diet, 2oz of a decent quality food should be adequate, so if you're feeding dry and canned you need to find a balance between these amounts.
As a guide, lower quality foods that tend to advise feeding ludicrous amounts like a whole can a day (or I even saw one that said 'let your cat eat as much as he likes'!!) are things like Whiskas, Felix, Meow Mix, Sheba, Fancy Feast - all stuff available from supermarkets. This is also the stuff that has kind of vague, unhelpful feeding guidelines like 'the average cat should have.....' Decent quality foods like Iams and Science Diet give more specific guidelines for different weights of cat.

Canned food twice a day AND dry food!!?? How much does your cat weigh, anyway? If you are buying GOOD and healthy dry cat food, then HALF A CUP ALL DAY is probably all the cat needs! Lots of people overfeed their cat. Most of those people end up with fat cats or extra visits to the vet. If I were you, I would save yourself some extra visits in the future with one visit to the vet right now to discuss this before you kill your cat. Good luck!

2 canned foods a day??? Is your cat a little fatty?
LoL generally speaking (assuming your cat is healthy and all), you should feed your cat 1 cup of dry kibble, 2 times a day and a canned food once every other day. The canned foods have more fats and oils in them, too much of it could cause your cat to become obese, and oily! Thats why they sell the cans in 4 packs or singles. Its not supposed to be an everyday thing.

Give her one small can twice daily (Fancy feast size), or half of a bigger can equaling a whole one daily. Also, if she is an indoor cat, give her indoor formula food. As long as the vet says she is a healthy weight, this should be good.

One can a day should be more than enough if she has dry food available all the time.
