It will not kill them. The penny will tumble in the air, creating a varying aerodynamic drag coefficient. The penny's terminal velocity will always be less than 50 mph, meaning it will never exceed that speed no matter how far it falls. It will sting quite a bit, but it won't even pierce your skin.
