Only God will do it we will ALL see him do it. Nothing else can possibly destroy the planet not a bomb not a rock from space not the sun burning out not a temp change.

To start with I would imagine a likely massive reduction in population caused by starvation as overpopulation and energy shortages start to really kick in , This will likely lead to mass contagion in poorer areas and could kick of some new global pandemic. The way we have shifted our population bases to the cities and most food and othere goods are distrubuted "just in time" will start off another cycle of starvation and thats when things will really hit the downward spiral. Could knock us back to a new dark ages. All that without even taking environmental change into account.
Nuclear war is a pretty unlikely cause of extinction. Only a few countries have the number of warheads to cause that much destruction and although im not a fan of there foreign policy they have enough maturity not to go flinging them round en mass. If any WMDs are used its likely to be in the volatile gulf area by some of the new Nuclear powers, and limited quantity exchanges (realistically only one or two apiece as they arent gonna have many more and dont have numerous cities . So a couple of exchanges and its all over from them. The rest of us can sit back and enjoy the show, then worry how we are going to fuel our gas guzzler.
Or we could get hit by an asteroid tomorrow as the agencies that try to spot the potential NEOs are way underfunded.

Their general want of more "power". People will continue to conquest eachother until there is nothing left of earth except a barren wasteland that will be uninhabitable by only the most basic forms of life without some sort of life support system... In conclusion we suck and will technically commit suicide. Some people have suggested getting a head start on that.

As Woody Allen said, "In 10 billion years the sun will burn out, so what's the point?" Even God's gonna have a tough time deaing with that one. Assuming nothing else wipes us out before then (and don't bank on it,) that will.

Our own selfishness and greed. If you don't believe me, look back to the tragedy of Hurricaine Katrina and the kind of behavior it brought out in so many people.
