It's not easy to get the required amount of protein in your diet, no matter what anyone says. And supplements are not just expensive junk (some are). I would suggest whey protein, creatine and a good multi-vitamin. That's all you need. And post workout you are going to want to eat something high in dextrose. You can purchase this if you can't get a food that works for you.

19 is a great age to work out; you should really only suppliment your diet if you are not eating enough of the right foods. At your age, I would think if you were doing strength training though, you will want to add about 20g protein to your diet each day. You can do this with one muscle milk (brand name). Have about 1/4 of it 30 minutes before your work out, and the last 3/4 right after your work out. Finish off the day with a multi-vitamin that has magnesium. If you are eating healthy, it shouldn't matter which multi-vitamin. If you are not, get one of the mega-multis from your local vitamin store. Most have their own brand. You can read a lot about what vitamins are better than others, but it's like reading what bananas are better than others: not much different.

If you're getting a decent diet, you don't need tons of all the protein goop, vitamins, etc. You can get all that your body needs if you just concentrate on a good, decent, balanced diet. Unless you're really working hard towards a bulky muscle-bound physique (and I'm talking about something like Arnold in his early days), all that stuff is just expensive junk that someone is trying to foist off on you. Get a balanced diet first, and see what happens.
