... does that then mean that by freeing this person "from debt" karma no longer plays a roll and God will no longer give him his just deserts - or justice, in other words since I made the decision to forgive? And what justice would I have in return for this forgiveness?

Hating someone hurts no one but yourself. Forgiving them is for you, not them. And thier karma is thiers alone to live with.

I don't know much about karma, but forgiving someone is NOT "letting them off the hook." And it most certainly does not stand in the way of justice.

To me, forgiveness is allowing yourself to let go of the situation and the person who hurt you so that it doesn't have power over you or your emotions. It isn't easy and when talking about things like forgiving a murder or whatever, it doesn't automatically "make it all better."

I personally believe that whether we forgive or not, those who wrong others (and let's face it, we all do to a certain degree) will have to deal with God one-on-one.

You must forgive that person, but that has nothing to do with Jesus forgiving him or not. That person will still have to answer to their deeds done while here on earth. However how can Jesus forgive you if you are unwilling to forgive someone else of their wrongs against you? Another words the forgiveness is way more for your benefit not theirs. Mercy cannot rob justice so their sin or inequity will have to be paid one way or another. by Jesus or by themselves. But it is imposable for Jesus to show mercy to someone who is not willing to show it to another the forgiveness is for you not them.

Forgive however does not mean that you let that person do the inequity over and over to you. You can forgive but you do not have to let it happen again. Justice is also important. You can forgive someone from stealing from you but yet demand full payment for the Good stolen or Justice to be served in a court of law. You just will not harbor hard feelings for that person. If some one kills a family member you should forgive that person but it would be acceptable to not want that person to walk free of the crime and you would not have to feel guilty because they paid the penalty that was handed out.

God forgave you for everything you did wrong your entire life...so what's the problem with forgiving one person? He sent his son to die a very painful death (watch the Passion) to forgive you. There's eternal justice if you, or the other person, don't accept him as your lord and continue sinning. God asks you to simply love others, not seek revenge.

God will decide what the just punishment will be for people. We are to forgive them and leave the rest to God. He said He would not forgive us if we didn't forgive others...

How about this . Unforgiveness is like drinking poison hoping the other person gets sick and dies.
When you forgive someone then something spiritual immediately takes place. You experience peace in your own heart. Try it and see.

The concept of Karma does not exist in Christianity so the question as phrased is kinda nonsensical.

if you forgive someone you are at peace with yourself, since you no longer carry around the burden of hatred or revenge.

it's up to the other person to ask God for forgiveness.
