I am planning on participating in a volunteer abroad trip in about a year, and I wish to do a similar program in the United States prior to taking off.

I am having trouble finding a program that fits my monetary and schedule requirements.
I need a tax-deductible, week-long service trip that I can participate in from December 14-21, preferably in the area of hurracane relief.

I've been looking all over and I can't seem to find a program like this... I've located many such programs abroad, but none in the United States.

Please help me out!

If you're looking for a rebuilding project, check out the Hands On Network. They have been coordinating disaster relief efforts in the gulf coast.

I only know about the Peace Corps and the VISTA programs (the USA). There are also kid camps that need adults to help out. Any school or elderly home would be glad for you to come by and help tutor or grade papers or read to people or to listen to their stories.

Goodwill (the USA) or community give-away food centers could use help as well.

I don't know if any of those things could fit the bill.
