Yes the B gear has something to do with going more slowly when going downhill.
You shouldn't have a problem getting up to speed on the freeway, but it depends on how big the slope is. I don't have any problem accelerating uphill in my Prius, as long as the slope isn't really steep. Try flooring it if you want to go faster.

Only 50 uphill means there is something wrong with it. To clarify on B mode: B mode is for when you are going down a long hill riding the brakes and the traction battery becomes as fully charged from regen as the system will let it and since there is no place else for the regen power to go the car switches to the regular friction brakes instead. Since the friction brakes would overheat if you continued to ride them downhill you instead select B which is the same as downshifting a manual transmission or putting a conventional automatic in low range. This just spins up the engine faster than normal and makes it act as a brake by pumping air.

replace the pinnacle gasket now!!!!!!! formerly you kill the engine. Is the fan working ? The greater artwork you ask the engine to do the greater warmth it makes. That leaky head gasket may well be leaking compression into the cooling gadget. Open cooling gadget ??? you advise you have not any overflow tank?.Does the overall performance rad have adequate ability, the acceptable circulate ? is it designed for a cherokee? i've got considered trick aluminum rads that did not cool nicely worth a damn. be certain the electrical powered fan is drawing near .

Plug a fully charged cell phone into your power port, the extra juice just might help you get up the hill. Seriously, you are driving a rolling battery with a micro-sized ICE, how fast were you expecting to travel?

You didn't buy a Prius in order to be able to speed up quickly on a hill, now, did you? If you're looking for acceleration, you're just driving the wrong car.

floor it, it will send all power to the gasoline engine because by then the battery should have already run out. it probably would have been a better idea not to get the prius in the first place, for the extra large battery and extra electric motors add so much weight to the car that a regular commuter car would have been better.

It could have something to do with B gear. B is the engine regen, so that it takes slowing down and converts it to energy. B should really only be used on long downhill grades I think.
I've never run into your problem, so I'm not sure.
