I think it was the middle 80s, there was a show set in the 40s about an Indiana Jones type guy who lived in a remote area, and there was a water plane and a girl...just vague memories, I know, but I watched it all the time as a pre-teen, and it was cancelled quite suddenly. Now no one seems to remember it exept me, and only cloudy memories for me. Anyone have an idea of what this show might have been?

First off, big props to northshore angel fan for piecing this answer together! The show you're thinking of is "Tales of the Gold Monkey", a valiant attempt to capture that Indy Jones magic on a week-to-week basis on television. It starred a pre-7th Heaven Stephen Collins as pilot/adventurer Jake Cutter who lives in the Marivella Islands in 1938 (you and northshore were SO close on that!). Created and produced by Don Bellisario, the man who also gave us "Quantum Leap", "JAG",and "NCIS", "Gold Monkey" was a one season wonder that aired from 1982-1983 on ABC. Sadly, it's not yet available on DVD,but if you sign up with Amazon's email notifications list, they'll give you the scoop. Also, if you find this or any other series through any of these no-seeum DVD sites, pass on 'em! I work at a movie studio, so I give MAJOR STINKEYE to websites that sell product that hasn't been released yet! Cautionary tale, y'all!

"Cliffhanger" -- This show starred Susan Anton and had that 40's feel with an IJ main character. Every episode ended with a cliff hanger so you had to wait a week to find out what happens. Unfortunately it didn't last very long maybe 6 months.
