Because we do not worship her.
We honor her. When you ask your pastor to pray for you are you worshiping him?
Again, you claim to be a "True Christian" yet you continue to misrepresent our faith. How does "Thou shall not bear false witness" sound to you. If you are doing this out of ignorance of our beliefs, you should educate yourself.
I suggest you stop and do a prayer time about what kind of witness you are being to our Lord.
Good Luck and God Bless!
Worship is something personal you do to your savior, I can accept that non-Catholics that have not studied our beliefs can question this, and have no problem with that questioning, that is healthy, lets explore it deeper. (www.Catholic.com)
But telling us what we believe is silly, arrogant, and wrong.

First of all, Christs mother is not dead. She is in heaven and alive. Just as Moses is, and other servants of the Lord. To refer to them as being dead when they have life is clearly showing your lack of understanding of anything in general.
When Catholics pray to the saints or to Mary, they are essentially just asking for them to pray for them as well, there is nothing wrong with asking a friend to pray for you.
You really believe that Catholics worship Mary? You mean you dont think we know that Mary isnt God? how ignorant seriously. Considering that the Catholic Church was the the only Church around until the Protestant reformation, and also put the Bible together for you, that maybe it has a greater understanding of what it's teaching then you do.
Do some research into what the Catholic Church teaches about Mary, rather then just jump to an assumption based on some hogwash giving to you by someone who isnt even Catholic.

As an explination of worship first hand. The carrying of her statue through the streets and the people having very penticostal slain in the spirit type of actions as the statue passes. The throngs that gather to see the statue. Testimonies of people present who say they worship Mary.
I'm not sure why you want to continue to deny this there are more than enough documentarys around to show that at least for some they do worship Mary.
Edit: I just saw a claim that catholics read their bible and that because Mary "interceded" for the married couple in the matter of the wine blah blah blah. Um... How about the sabbath Yahshua said he was LORD of the Sabbath! Therefore ergo the Lords day is sabbath and how about the passage that says he went to the synogogue on the sabbath day and stood up to read as was HIS CUSTOM. Why do you impose Sunday worship?

The church itself is making a lot of changes with the new pope, the catholics here in my home town pray to the statue, maybe they do not conceive praying to it as a act of worship.

Yes, you have seen Catholics pray to Mary, but you do not know what we are saying when we pray to her. When I asked you what you saw Catholics do after they receive Eucharist, you said "Think about drinking and extramarital sex?"
Catholics ask Mary to pray for them. Catholics read their Bibles, so they know that at the wedding feast of Canna, Mary INTERCEEDED on behalf of the married couple and asked her son, Jesus to take care of the problem. That is what she does for us today. She interceeds.
No, Mary is not dead. Catholics read their Bible and know that mary and others in Heaven have everlasting life. I believe that God would not want to keep us from the people that we love, so God allows thoise in Heaven to hear our prayers.
Your problem is that you have prejudged what Catholics do and believe, so you do not understand that Catholics follow the commandment that say that you shall not worship anyone but God.

They don't. My whole family is catholic. They pray to her, but they do not worship her. There is a huge difference.
I myself am atheist, so Im not really sticking up for anyone, but you all have your facts screwed up. they DO NOT worship her OR statues. get your head out of your behind. Ive been in a catholic house hold my whole life. I do not agree with a lot of it, but people have no idea what theyre talking about most of the time when it comes to catholism, they just hear people talk, then believe whatever they hear. Theyre are way too many misconceptions about this religion.

Because we *don't* worship Mary. Worship is for God, alone. We *honor* Mary and hold her in very high esteem. She is the greatest of all our Saints, being deemed worthy to bear our Savior. In Catholic theology, we believe her to be the only human being besides Christ, Himself, who is without sin (I realize this is not a belief held by protestant denominations). We also believe that, as the mother of the Lord, she was assumed into heaven, body and soul. We do not believe that she is dead and rotting; we believe she is in Heaven.
As with all the Faithful, living or dead, we believe she is part of the Communion of Saints, and that her prayers are joined with ours and with those of all the holy men and women who have gone before us. When you see Catholics "pray to Mary," we are not praying to her in the same manner that we pray to God. We ask her for her intercessions. We ask her to pray *for* us to the Father. We ask her to watch after us as she cared for her Son. We do not accord her any worship, as that is due only to God.
I've never understood why Protestants believe that the dead cannot hear us and take no interest in the living. They have no problem accepting the story of Christ's Transfiguration, in which Moses and Elijah, both long since gone to dust, appear and converse with Christ, apparently taking a great deal of interest in what was happening on Earth. Anyhow, that's another matter entirely.
Side note for Diminati and others who share his opinion: Read the Gospel of Luke. You will find half of the Ave Maria right there. (Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.) Yes, there is honor and respect for Mary in that prayer, but if you want to call it unchristian, you'll have to take it up with St. Luke and with God, Himself.

Because Catholics don't worship Mary. Catholics venerate Mary. Big difference. We ask the Blessed Virgin to pray on our behalf, just as we would ask friends and relatives to pray for us. The difference, though, is that Mary is especially close to God because of her willingness to serve Him. She said "yes" to God's plan, and as the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, has a very special place in His heart. I just know that I really wouldn't want to be standing in the presence of Christ someday trying to make excuses as to why I blatantly disrespected His mother. She deserves the honor given her. The Bible clearly states that she shall be called "blessed".

i wish people would learn their facts first before posting stupid, overdone questions. catholics do not worship mary! yes, they do pray to her. there is a HUGE difference between worshiping of and praying to. look it up. having a statue of her does not mean that she is being worshiped! it is the same as having a picture of your mother hanging up in your house, or anyone else...wait, maybe you dont pray in your own house for fear that others will think you worship your furniture and decorations...
