Is there an AFI or anything that says that a new father gets a certain amount of days for paternity leave, or will he have to use his regular leave days?

regular leave time, and strictly command discretion whether or not he can even get any time off.

You will need to take regular leave. How long will be something you need to talk to your CO about. With our first child, my husband could only get 10 days of leave. With our second, we lived in Japan and the command there encouraged everyone to take 30 days of leave a year (as a way to get back to the states). My husband was able to take the 30 days then. Of course, you have to have enough leave accumulated to cover however long you want to be out! From what I have seen, 2 weeks is about the average though.

He will have to use regular leave time. The military does ot give paternity leave time like maternity leave. Depending on his unit, they might be able to cut him a break and give him some extra time off to be with his family. This is what my unit does but we were active duty at a reserve unit so that might be different than AD.

Look up regulations

There is no reg for it. It's up to the command. My husband got 3 to 5 days free with both of our children. Any more than a few days and he had to take leave. He took 2 weeks for both kids.

No, AFI's. He will have to take normal leave. Or have him talk to his Flight Chief, if he is in good with him, he will probably give him a few days free. Mine did.
