Tammy I have seen some of your other posts and know you exercise a good bit or try to anyway...
I work outside everyday and me and three other guys go through 6 - 7 gallons of water out of the water cooler. And sometimes that is not enough. Water is a necessity. It takes a lot of the byproducts from the exercising and other wastes out of our body. Ever been to the bathroom and your urine had a strong smell to it? muscle wastes and others as well. So if you are active then no you are probably not drinking too much. I tell my guys when it is hot to drink from that water keg until you have to go the bathroom. As you know we sweat also as well as go to the bathroom. When you drink enough to have to go then we know we are not getting dehydrated and we are also flushing our system. As long as you are not shotgunning the water you will be ok...

Too much water can be very harmful to you. The recommended 8 glasses is plenty for most people, so you might want to cut down a little on the amount your drinking. But if you are exercising alot, and constantly losing fluids, your water intake should be a little more. The harmful thing about drinking a lot of water, more then the recommended 8 glasses, is that you can overhydrate yourself. Which can be fatal in serious cases. Normally this condition comes with a few warning signs. You might feel weak, dizzy. And your head may start hurting. Just be sure to respond to your body's feelings, if it feels unusual, then you need to stop drinking as much. If you feel full on your stomach from the water, you have probably had too much for that time, wait a little while at least before drinking more. And its not good to drink lots of water at one time, it's much better used by the body if drunk in small amounts periodically. Just remember our body has an easy way of telling us when it wants water. We get thirsty.

There's probably no perfect guideline to drinking water. Personally, I get by with only about 50 ozs a day. Keep in mind that a healthy individual gets water from food sources, especially fruits and vegetables, so you could subtract that from the recommended 64 ozs per day. If you are just starting to drink lots of water on a regular basis, you may find yourself running to the bathroom an extraordinary number of times. For most people, this is a temporary side-effect, as your body is not accustomed to the extra fluids; it will become used to it, eventually.
