This guy I work with is a very active Christian, he knows I have a Deist belief system. Today he said to me regarding my religious beliefs:

"You are not wrong, we just have different beliefs. I like talking to you because you see things differently and that helps me learn."

Note: Academicly this guy is my superior.

Be all things to all men that you may win some. Sounds like he is taken God's word to heart. God is all about relationship.

What he said is correct. Deism at least admits there is a supreme being in nature, but God is more than that to Christians. Christians always want to learn about other belief systems. Christians believe in a personal relationship with God. God even tells us that by looking at nature we are without excuse for not believing in Him.

I would say about the same thing. That's why I like to have friends with all sorts of belief systems. I hope I never cease learning.

He sounds like an open minded, tolerant smart man. It sounds like he "walks his talk" and doesn't need to preach in order to get his point across. He is probably one of those people that people come up to and say, "What's up w/ you? you are different" and that will open the door to him sharing his faith. Sounds like a heck of a guy. You are fortunate to be working with him.

All Christians are not ignorant, one sided, and pushy. Some of us enjoy the other side of the argument every now and again, and always enjoy to learn more about it regardless of whether we agree with it or not.

I think that's great. He has an open mind, one that can accept different points of view. Would you rather be talking to someone who listens with half an ear while his mind is saying "poor so and so, he is going straight to hell"?

Yes because he's a smart guy. If he was a fundamentalist from the deep south then my eyebrows would be raised.

Some Christians are pretty mellow about their religion. I don't really understand how, but at least they are easy to get along with.

That is weird, Christian Faith says that other religions are wrong. Just shows Christian ignorance.

Heh, at least he wont get into fights with other Religious people. Well actually, he might fight with other Christians who actually read some of their Bible. (Of course no Christian reads enough of their Bible, if they did, they would be an Atheist.)
