How do you figure that? Any priest who has been convicted of a serious crime has ended up in jail, just like anyone else. If you are talking about the settlement of a class action suit as an alternative to multiple long-term criminal trials, this is standard procedure in the legal system. It doesn't show any partiality to the Church. In fact, the Church is really being taken for a ride on this one. Undoubtedly many who have made false accusations of criminal acts will be receiving large cash payments. It's just amazing how many men experienced "sudden recall of suppressed childhood memories" once the cash started flowing.

Why do the rich and powerful always get away with breaking the law? Because they either are or own the law.

We don't break the law.
What in the world are you talking about?
It has come full Circle for us Catholics, the Pope was mis-quoted and all believed it, next there was irrational questioning of our beliefs, now we are down to plain and simple mindless bashing.
Peace be with you!

"Get away with" might be strong. When the hierarchy has been caught, they have been punished.
Problem is, it seems the Vatican doesn't police its own priests. Instead it sweeps scandals under the carpet, when it can, to try and keep the church above the people...imagine the disaster they would have financially if all the flock lost respect and stopped giving their money to them...

This week they paid a 660 million dollar fine for violating the civil rights of their people. I wouldn't call that getting away with anything.
