In my opinion the best software to burn CDs/DVDs is Ashampoo Burning. It's a free software and it can be downloaded here: http://j.mp/1sW2jD1
If you want to make a DVD that will work on a common DVD player, you definitely need a burning software. Copying the movie as is directly to a new DVD it's not the right way to do it (If you do so your DVD player will not be able to play the video/movie properly).
The most reliable DVD burning program I used it Ashampoo Burning. It works with all types of videos and music (both with DVDs and CDs). Ashampoo is a very modern and professional software (you can also edit videos and create DVD menus)

Hi Ive used most DVD burning software and although most of them work quiet well the best i have found that does it all in one go without any input from you other than telling it what folder or disk you want to copy is DVD FAB Platinum ..this prog will even copy PSP/ IPOD etc..you can download the trial version here ( http://www.dvdfab.net/ ), this prog is not free but you get a full working trial ,Feel FREE to contact me REGARDING THIS PROGRAMME..Hope this Helps..Best Regards Steve

You can use Nero or Cucusoft Mpeg/Mov/RMVB/DivX/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter, both of them can help you convert and burn any video file directly to VCD, DVD, SVCD, MPEG1 and MPEG2 format. Hope can help you!
