I would say anything over a carat is too big. It will get caught on things. I should know as my hubby loves to buy large stones for me and they get caught on everything! They also look gaudy and ostentatious if the stone is too big.

It depends on your woman... I didn't want a very big ring, so mine is only .25 carat. Some women would feel jipped with anything less than 2 carats (but they are spoiled, high maintenance jerks... haha). If you don't know, come up with a subtle way to find out what she likes... look at the jewelry she wears now. I know the stereotype is the bigger the better, but it's just not true. Good luck!

I didn't want a ring that stuck up a lot, cuz I always snag stuff, nylons, clothes etc. I only wanted a carot at most, if not smaller, I do have pretty delicate hands though, very dainty and small, so i didn't want anything too big. Try looking at her other jewelry she wears, if her necklaces are big and glitzy, get her something bigger and more out there. If she doesn't wear much jewelry or if she wears tiny jewelry, a smaller one would be more appropriate.

There is no such thing as "too big". Girls that say that something is too big, are usually just jealous. If the ring is a solitaire, then it won't look gaudy no matter how big it is. Along with size, you want the rest of the C's to be good as well.

I would say anything bigger than a carat (the big stone) is too big. I have a 3/4 carat and it is just perfect. It's big enough were I get complimented all the time, but it's not in my way all the time when I'm cleaning. A carat is almost too big for me. Who needs something bigger than that? Don't spend your entire life savings on a ring, go with a better quality diamond rather than just a bigger diamond.

If you're really wondering, play this little game: Get a female you trust (and that your girl KNOWS, just in case), and have her bring over her jewellery box or a jewler's catalogue (A flyer from a store works too, or look in any sears book). Have your friend look at the rings with your girl, and have the friend note what she says (And with real rings, you can get her finger sized right too- big plus when it fits!). If your friend or girl is into art, try having your friend convince her to create an image of what she wants. Then you get all the info you need to create her dream ring. If you have a lack of female friends, then ask a Mom, either yours, or if her mother knows her well, yours. Then you can figure it out from there.

well, r most women, any size is fine, there is no "too big" actually, its rlly the thought that counts, but if sum1 didnt think like that, it would probably be the bigger the better. nothing that will oversize their finger or get too heavy, nuthin too small or u seem cheep. nuthin too big or else it looks disporportional. sumthin in the medium size that flatters the finger. make it beautiful and the rite size. also, if you are getting married (which i assume you are) dont go straight up to your wife and say, "which ring do u want?" just go shopping together and "happen upon" (wink wink) a jewlery store or a ring store. look in it and if she says anythin about how she likes 1, get it for her or get sumthin like that.

I think anything flashy is silly. Also bigger rocks can snag in sweaters and fabrics! Leave the "bling" to the rappers and get her a classy understated ring. Remember quality- not quantity!

Someone I know wears a ring size 3.5 (tiny) and her center diamond is 2.75 carats, surrounded by a bunch of other diamonds. It looks like she strapped a tennis ball to her hand. Why would you want that? If she had a larger hand, it would probably look much better.
My ring is 1 carat center, and 4 small diamonds on either side. My hand is also larger, so it looks just right on my size hand. My cousin's hand is much smaller than mine, and so is her diamond, which looks just perfect for her.
