20 gauge Rifled Slugs are effective out to about 100 yards. If you want even better results consider using a 20 gauge Sabot round. These are 20 gauge and consist of a hard lead Sabot bullet encased in a plastic sleeve. As the slug clears your barrel end the plastic casing falls away and the slug continues on hitting your target/game. These can increase your range and accuracy out of a rifled barrel up to 20% over regular rifled slugs. They cost a bit more but they are well worth the extra cost. They can be purchased online or at any retail Sporting Goods store that sells ammunition

A 20 gauge rifled barrel shotgun is going to be as accurate as the shooter, but probably not more accurate than say a .22 Long Rifle.

I know a guy who had one on his Mossberg pump and he could use slugs and easily lay down groups in a reasonably good (maybe ~4 inches) pattern out at 50 yards.
That was from a bench with no real elevation change and after it was sighted in, but he could ethically shoot deer like this.

Very accurate at close distance, however slugs are very heavy, you will need to sight in at whatever distance you will be shooting because of the bullet drop.

It depends what kind of weapon it is. And what kind of slugs you use and the most important thing is the shooter. But on average I know for a fact it will kill a deer.
