I think this is an EXCELLENT idea. Exercise is critical for anyone especially someone suffering from depression. The only suggestion I can make is that you determine not to try to advise people against taking medication for depression. While exercise is important, clinical depression is an organic disease that many people can not beat without professional help and medicaton. By the way....I am also a "survivor" of severe depression. I beat it with therapy, exercise and medicaton. best wishes

It sounds like a great idea however you need to take into account that well many of us suffering from depression have No desire to get up let alone get out.
I know personally I hate even having to deal with people in person. Maybe you could start slow and have a group get to know one another online then meet at a park locally and go from there.
Maybe it is just me having a abusive background and having trust issues that go hand in hand with the depression but this would be something I would be more apt to join in on then just finding an announcement and going off to meet a lot of strangers.
I do think it is great idea and really believe the same as you that all things happen for a reason. I have been through a great deal in life and use my experiences to help others as well. It makes me feel I have not wasted a whole lot of my life and gone through all that for nothing when I use it to help others.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Hi, Jillian. I haven't had the success you've had. I've been suffering from depression for about 35 years. 5 days ago, I was looking forward to a trip to Virginia Beach with two of my friends. We live about 40 miles north of Charlottesville.
In January of this year, I started having seizures and have been under treatment for them, too. A week ago, I told my neurologist about my trip and he told me NOT to go (even though my friend would be driving.) I had originally planned to drive when we planned the trip. After I found out that I couldn't drive for 6 months (Damned Law!), my friend offered to drive. Nonetheless, my neurologist said with the medication he put me on, I shouldn't be out in the sun.
To make things even worse, Ann and Christine (my 2 friends), had been looking after me, and since they won't be around, I have to spend four days with my parents who are both hard of hearing while I am VERY sensitive to sound. They promised they wouldn't talk to each other from other rooms (necessitating shouting), but that went out the door very quickly.
I started walking (with a cane because of the epilepsy) on roads WITH NO SIDEWALKS! I just couldn't stand being around the noise, and kept an eye out for any oncoming cars.
Still, after an hour of walking 5 days a week, I feel no better than I did when I started.
Hope you have more success.

Sounds great. My suggestion would be to schedule the walk 4-5 times a week, and schedule the guest speakers separately from the walking times.
Also, have a very small flier "disclaimer" to hand out to people to protect yourself.

If you're located in my hometown, I'll join your group. This is a great idea. When I went through my divorce, my Dr. advice me to walk. I was severely depressed too. Walking gets the blood pumping and fresh air in you. Go for it and good luck.

Wow that is a great idea...May I make one small suggestion though? How about "Walk with Depression"? There are many of us battling major depression due to PTSD and other mental health illnesses that won't allow us to walk it "off".
Just one gals opinion!! Hope it works
