The bible says that we do not fight against man but principalities of evil--it is spiritual--not tanglible! Chrisitans are faith based -- faith means you believe in things not yet seen--so to begin with your mind can not be set upon "concrete"--I have to see it to believe it mentality!
Also studying the Bible can help you tremendously--and remember at the end of the KJV it says that if anyone changes what is in this book, they are subject to God--so if you are following the Bible and some of it has been translated incorrectly--you are ignorant of that and God does not hold a person accountable for what they do not know.
God is a spirit being--you can feel the wind but can you prove there is wind? Can you see the wind?
There is scientific evidence that prayer works. They have done studies in hospitals--where on one floor they prayed over the sick people and asked God for them to get better--on another floor they just visited the people--conclusion was that the ones prayed over became significantly better and some were healed.
The more intimately you get to know about God the more attuned you become of his presence, at least for me that is how it has been. I suggest to you that you go to a christian bookstore and get some of their books that have workbooks (they are enjoyable and written very simply) that go with books about scripture. This helped me. You see I always asked, If there is a God, why can't we see him? God is spiritual and he is very bright--we might desentigate if we beheld him in human form. The Bible says that when Moses came down from the mountain with the 10 commandments that his hair was white---I believe that was from the light of God's spirit--
And also, remember that God gives you choice---kinda like he wants us to follow him because we want to not because we think we have to--sorta like if you have a friend do you want them being your friend because they have to be or because they want to be? The Bible says that God is Love!
As for your question of how would one know if God was trying to talk to them if they had never heard of God--well that would be kinda difficult, wouldn't it? But, perhaps our God who works in strange and miraculous ways--if he wanted you to know about him, he might put a person in your path to give you that knowledge.
I have never seen God, however, I have felt God--and it was powerful and very beautiful and soooo peaceful--it happened when i was 17 years old and I am 57 now! It only happened once and I think it happened to me because God knew I was scientific minded and you just kinda had to show me things! lol ---Then i learned about faith--. God does not lie--he even says you can test him in some ways--so if you study, you will find out more about these things and you can apply them in your own life. That is what I did and my decision was to be a believer in the Lord--and he has never let me down--he does not always give me everything I want and most times that is for my own good--I have found--you see he can see into the future--we cannot! Sometimes I think God speaks through my conscience--like if I feel that I should not do a certain thing--usually I shouldn't etc. But once in the middle of the night I woke up and heard in my head--"Be still and know that I am God" I was worried about a family matter involving my grandchild--the next day I found out that everything had been resolved with my concerns over this grandchild--i had been praying for a long time about it! So, I felt that God had spoken to me! I hope you find your answers--it says to seek and you shall find--and you are seeking so you will find--God Bless You
PS: Remember the enemy (satan) knows a lot more than we do about God and heaven--He lived there once! He is very smart and crafty--do not let him sway you--not everything must be concrete to be real--again, the wind! Think about it!

Of course I don't have "adversaries" but for me the most frustrating questions posted by non-Christians are ones asking us to logically defend out faith. If faith is a supernatural/spiritual thing, how can we logically explain it? How would you feel as a Pagan if people kept demanding that you use logic to justify everything you believe? I'm sure you've run into it before. It gets old fast. EDIT: I thought of another repeated dumb question I hate. It's "Oh, explain the following! *insert random out-of-context verse about eating babies or raping women*" If people would actually take a deep breath and read the entire book of the Bible, then pick up a commentary or history book and try to figure out what was going on and the time and what the specific verse is, there wouldn't be a problem. But they're not genuinely interested in an answer, they're just trying to make a point and make people look stupid. A "question" like that causes me to lose a great deal of respect for the person asking.

Everything is personal and different.
There is no "concrete evidence" one way or the other. The way you feel and respond to god is personal. Some feel a warmth, some excited, some cool, some the chills, some nothing, and more. it's up for you to decide for yourself
I'm not trying to "side-step" you question. The fact is how you feel and believe about anything is unique, and no one can tell you what you should expect. they can only tell you what they fell and know. for atheists it's the same exact way, nothing concrete; it's just the way they believe.

God has never spoken to me verbally. I don't know any who has talk with God, the way the deciples did in Jesus time or in Genesis where Adam and Eve walked with god in the Garden of Eden.
But I do know this: One day I was so upset and destraught and I prayed sitting in the living room by myself and I asked for peace. And I got this warm feeling all over my body, it felt as if a shield was around me, but I continued to pay, and when I was done, I felt so relaxed and at peace. And I carry that feeling with me everyday.
When I asked for guidance and I'm not sure which way to go, I may have 2 choices or more, but I have noticed when I have no more than 2 choices, when I decide on what I'm going to do and do it, it seems to be the correct choice all goes well, but if I make the wrong choice or bad choice, my stomach becomes upset when I make the choice, not after the fact that it went bad, but before. I believe that is in my opinion Gods way of communicating with me. Now this could be just instinct, who knows.
I also think god answers prayers in finding things, for instance I needed a major appliance fixed at home and the cost was $247.32, I didn't have the money and I just prayed about my situation and the next day while getting gas at a gas station I normally never stop at, at the pump was money tied very tightly in a rubber band on the ground, so I picked it up and when I left the gas station, I thought maybe a few bucks someone dropped, well it was exactly $248.00. I thanked God and had my appliance fixed the next day.
God is good and I know he answers prayers for He has done it for me many times. I guess it all depends on you.

To say atheists base their beliefs on fact is, well, pure faith. Evolution is far from fact and you can see that if you are honest enough to look at it objectively. Most aren't.
If you expect to hear an audible voice of God, it most likely won't happen. Some claim to have heard God's voice as being audible even when others around them didn't hear it. There are scripture references to that happening. But it hasn't happened to me. I hear God in my conscience. We all have something inside us that talks and prompts us. You do to. When you are about to do something that might offend or is wrong, doesn't that voice inside speak to you? For us Christians, the Holy Spirit is that voice. Our life is shaped by God's word. That also speaks to us and shapes us. Praying is our way of communicating with God and communication can only occur when there is a sincerity from the person praying. I think all people think or speak to themselves all day long. From there it's a matter of which voice you're listening to. Christians are supposed to hear the voice of God but we also hear the other one - our own. Sometimes that one leads us in the wrong direction. Before we knew Jesus that is the voice we always heard. And believe me, there is a discernible difference. It takes a conversion to tell the difference. And that's why so many people say what you chastised them for, "you just know".

Well Ive yet to have God audibly talk to me. If He did Id probably crap myself. I have asked many questions and received many answers. One that comes to mind right away is when I was new to the relationship I was asking is it really important to read the OT. I found it very boring except Genesis. So I stopped reading it. The day I stopped reading it I received my Decision magazine with an article on how important it is to read the OT. The next week in church was a sermon on how many churches are no longer referencing the OT now. That is not just coincidence. I prayed on should I quit my job and just rely on my business I started. So I quit. The next month I would have never been able to do my old job due to the physical activity involved. Im all better now but that is not just coincidence. God will let people know He is He. If someone has never heard of God He will reveal Himself to that person. His ways are much higher than ours. Come on if He created the world in 6 days I think He can reveal Himself to someone who hasnt heard of Him. Peace out....

So which question are you asking here?
To me, God's voice is like a whisper. I feel like God is speaking through me when I open my mouth and answer a question that I didn't think I knew. It is there when I'm being prodded in the spirit to do something I wouldn't normally do. I'm not considered a Christian by some people nor do I claim to be saved but I do believe that God is with me.
P.S. I'm not crazy! If the voice was negative, I would get therapy.

I feel as though you're asking a question that you know can't be exactly answered. Do you want someone to tell you that God will come down, sit down at a coffee shop with you and speak to you directly? That would be nice but that's not the way it works. He's a quiet voice that isn't going to be direct. And it's true. You'll just know it's him. It's different for everyone. And why are you trying to compare Christians to Athiests? Yeah, Athiests will give you a direct answer because they don't believe in anything, they have theories. That's like asking a psychic how/why they get visions or see dead people. They just do.
Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green?
It just is.

I agree with Testi...nice rack babygirl.
Oh, and to answer your questions, Christians can not answer those questions because they do not know themselves. When they start to think about an answer they find that they can not come up with one and the bible does not have an answer for them either. Since having no answer (admitting it anyway) would to prove thier faith wrong, they give you half-assed answers that side step the truth so they can find peace in thier illusionary world that as long as they believe it is so.

A literal description of a communication from God:
I read Jeremiah 33:3 "Call unto me, and I will show thee great and mighty things." I prayed and reminded God of this verse, but I wanted my faith increased and I had been praying for at least 3 months straight for different gifts of the Holy Spirit. And one morning at 3:15 a.m. I heard this audible voice that awakened me, "Get up and see the wonders of God." I quickly got up, put on my house shoes and went outside. At the top of the hill I saw a huge ball of light, like the brightest moon that you could imagine but much larger. At first it was very calming but when reality hit me that I didn't know what I was looking at it frightened me and I went back inside. I wish I had stayed outside but I didn't. I did go back out but it was gone. Just like Jeremiah 33:3 proclaims . . . I saw a great and mighty thing that I knew nothing about. I've never questioned the existence of God from that moment on. That was the 2nd time that God made Himself known to me. Every word ever spoken to me by God is engraved on my memory. Mike Murdock said one time, "In His presence we change." That is the best way that I can describe an experience with God.
How would you know God was talking to you if you'd never heard of God? I believe that was your other question. I'll answer the best way that I can because you see I've heard of God.
First, there is no way to misunderstand God. You will never say to God, "What did you say?" I would say God knows your language and exactly how you speak, slang, accent, etc., but when He speaks your language it is pure confidence spoken.
Almost as if your mind, body and spirit all understand and are tuned in to the spoken words more clearly than any audio sound. Only twice in my entire life have I heard the audible voice of God. I normally hear God by way of conscience knowing which means I discern by the Holy Spirit in me who teaches me all things. These are words unspoken but known.
I guess that no one believed that you really wanted to know so they didn't bother to give you good answers. Hopefully this will help you understand.
